Formula E is not a "grave" but a great serie where you can have a great carreer. Top drivers in Formula E get paid higher wages as several drivers in F1 and as almost every driver in IndyCar. Vandoorne earns 2 million euro in Formula E, that's double of what Magnussen earns at Haas this year.
Ridiculous to think that only people who drive in Formula 1 are suposedy good or 'have made it'. There is more than F1. WEC Hypercars, GT sportscars, Super Formula, IndyCar, Formula E, WRC, World Championship Touring Cars also have great drivers and they're also great series to drive in.
When you can live from autosport by earning a salary from it (instead paying for it) you have made it. Many young drivers dream of getting paid to drive as a profession. When you can reach that that is not a "grave" but getting paid to do what you love, getting paid to drive cars. Rowland is getting paid by manufacturer Nissan this year: that is not a "grave'.
Whether someone can drive in F1 these days is often decided by 2 factors: luck (there has to be an open seat exactly at the right moment and you've got to be in the right F1 junior program and/ or the right F2 team at the right moment) and money.
