Does anyone except me remember the FART* initiative, when Toyota entered NASCAR? They've disappeared into nowhere.

Because ironically, the only base model of the NASCAR cars, that was built in the US, was the Toyota.

He is still very competitive, and could have easily finished in top 10.

Did you know that the names of John D. Rockefeller and Mike Rockenfeller have the same root? I don't know if they are related, though.

Burton is terrible and Junior isn't much better.

I am very sure it is not Burton I am thinking of, maybe it is a pit-lane reporter? idk, it's irritating anyway

5 pages of great bowling content. Thanks y'all, loved having you here and hope more of these cameos will appear in the future. It did make the typical 2022 season Truex pain more easy to digest. See y'all at the very end of Daytona next week. Cheers

Burton is awful, and yeah, Junior isn't great, but I can stomach him a lot more because he's just a really good guy. The crew in general is pretty bad & cringey.

This is going to sound bad now, but I thought Rocky was going to finish the best of all the so-called ringers.  He'd been the last one with any time in a saloon, I think--and DTM is badass.

With testing restrctions, no stock car experience, and in a team that outside of restrictor-plate tracks has a grand total of 2 top 10's in 180-ish starts, it would a though task for Rockenfeller to be the best of them.

I thought the deadliest sport in the UK is eating British food.  :p

It's been said that the country which conquered half the world for it's spices later decided they were too tasty for consumption.

True British cuisine has been all-but forgotten as supermarkets filled with generic, homologous, bland looking and tasting mulch. Nothing wrong with a steak and kidney pie but try making one rather than buying one in a box....the difference is night and day. And that's still a bland dish.

oh how I weep for Britain's lost cuisine.

Now...how did Kimi do?

He made a lot of places when the track was wet, was right behind Kimi before the stops for slicks.

I had the opportunity to attend yesterday’s race at the Glen and as a “casual” nascar fan I must say – I was very impressed this the show. We sat outside of turn one. A great location, we could see half the of pit stalls, half of the front straight, turn 1 through the esses. There was also a big screen TV directly next to our grandstands.

The Next Gen” cars looked and sounded like proper race cars (compared to previous generations). Paint schemes are much more vibrate in person vs. TV. Lots of action through-out the field.

Also, there were a lot of fan friendly events and displays on site.

A few minor negatives: I don’t get the point of stage racing.  Oh yeah, not a fan of yesterday’s traffic or weather.

So, NASCAR on a road course in wet and drying conditions?  With a good seasoning of proper road racing drivers there to show the Good Ol' Boys how to do it?  The perceived wisdom is that it would be carnage, as the NASCAR regulars are inept and mentally challenged, and the real racers will dominate

In reality, it turns out the NASCAR regulars are perfectly able to cope with wet conditions, a track that turns left   , drying conditions, changing to slicks at the right time and so on, all with very few serious incidents.  And the vaunted 'visitors' are not really able to demonstrate any superiority at all.

The only thing wrong with NASCAR is the people running it, with their stupid playoffs and stages and Chases.  And the generic cars that aren't Mustangs or Camrys.

I was under no illusion that the usual suspects--Chase, Kyle, 'Dinger, etc. wouldn't end up at the pointy end.  Conditions were better than at COTA last year.  That said, none of the Euros embarrassed themselves.  I enjoyed the race, for what it was.

We don’t have to like it but they’ve got their reasons for doing things the way they do.

Playoffs to keep the ratings up until the end of the season so no one clinches before the season ends.

Stages to keep the drivers from laying back for a few hundred laps then racing the last 20 or so.  It gives incentive to run hard early.  It’s basically heat racing without the break between heats.  I’d rather see a traditional mixed heat rounds then an A main and B main but that’s not going to fly.

Mustangs and Camrys can’t go 150 plus around a race track.  Ever seen what happens when those cars wreck at even 70-80 mph?  It’s bad news.  The new kit car is a response to decades of different equivalency formulas plus trying to police cheaters and gray area riders.  Now it’s “here’s your car, don’t cheat it up”.  It also reduces  costs because of centralized crash damage repair and limiting the number of cars each team owns.

The ratings and empty stands show their "brilliant" moves haven't worked.

I am informed that the driver 2nd in the championship is in danger of missing the "playoffs" if he doesn't win the final "regular season" race and another driver gets his first win of 2022.

How does that make sense?

So stage racing alters the tactical side of the race? Changes it from an endurance/survival event into several small dashes?

I think Kimi showed good speed and race craft.
If he wasn’t dumped he’d have finished well.

Once again explaining the why and how something happens is equated with defending something.  They’ve been clear about the hows and whys.  If it worked or not is another matter.

I’d like to see Kimi on the dirt at Bristol.  Or for good fun the Knoxville Nationals or Chili Bowl.  He's got the tenacity and car control to throw a 410 sprint into the corner.
