For the bag checking, it's not that simple. I used to know a sound engineer that worked at Leeds festival. I was complaining that we couldn't take in our own booze 'cos they were checking bags. He just pointed out that my rucksack was a camelbak that had the drinks sleeve down the back, use that for booze and hold it for security to have a look. Easy, instead of a 3l bladder it was crammed full of sidekick shots, the main compartment had my jacket, camera, etc, go up to security hold it open for them to have a look through and they never thought to check where the drinks bladder goes (probably not aware of it), saved us a fortune on alcohol. I'm sure the same could be done with flares.

Steve.

All they need is to step up security at entrances.

Yep.

Regardless of whether they search every single bag or not, they could certainly step it up a bit. Not sure how many GP weekends I've been to, probably about 18, and I think I've had my bag searched on two days in total.

I think asking people to behave as adults will as non-flare throwing security measures, it's not hard not to be stupid, we can see on the faces of the spectators watching the security guard how unimpressed they are - The pointing fingers and courting of track by the police will be as effective as someone pretending to check 312.154 bags at the entrances.

I've never been searched at Silverstone. This year at Spa was the first time, and I suspect that was only because they announced the ban just a week before.

Oh, wow! I got searched each day for 3 days on my last 2 visits.

Maybe I look like a trouble causer? But I thought they were doing it to everyone at my gates. I did arrive early each day, though, so when there wasn't a queue. Maybe they slacked off later in the day as numbers increased?

Last time I went was 2014, so they might have changed their policy.

I've never been searched at any race be it F1, Indy, or GTs.  Looking like a fine and upstanding citizen goes a long way...    :drunk:   :drunk:   :drunk:

It's pretty basic, but looking well groomed, well dressed, and having a British accent in the US has 100% given me a leg up in a variety of circumstances.

Absolutely.  My s/o always asked why I dressed a little above the required standards of wherever we were going and I told her exactly what you've experienced. I also added that as a knuckle dragger standing next to her, I have to raise my game so people wouldn't ask her why a homeless guy was following her around.

I think it might have something to do with your backpack that you wore.

That doesn’t work with weapons.  That’s why we bag search and mag over here (with profiling as well).
