Hello,

I wonder if there are any information about early BMW motorcycles like type R 5 or R 51 being raced at Brooklands. Somewhere I saw some photos from Brooklands 1938 with such bikes. Rider names included ? Tisdall and also Francis Beart.

There have been riders on such bikes at the TT and/or MGP in 1937 (Worsick), 1938 (Cannell, Worsick) and 1939 (Reid)

Any help in getting more details is highly appreciated. Thank you.

Lothar (BMW Mobile Classic Club, Germany)

As you mention Tisdall, you've probably seen the photo taken at the MCC Members Meeting in September 1938. Initials MWK, full name Michael William Knox Tisdall - looks like he later enlisted in the Corps of Military Police (now the Royal Military Police) and died, aged about 37, in an accident in Kent in 1940: http://www.corpsofmi...g/soldier/4525/

Probate records give his home address as 'Ravenswing', Aldermaston, Berkshire and say his estate was worth over £18000 - not a small sum in 1940!

The Motor Cycling Club still exists, so it might be worth contacting them: https://www.themotor...ingclub.org.uk/
