It’s been announced on Facebook that Ted Williams has died. Ted was from Bristol (UK) and raced, sprinted and hill climbed a variety of cars over the years, including a Hesketh 308E and the fearsome Can-Am March 707. RIP Ted.

Indeed, I remember seeing him at Shelsley many times.

Never Champion but won several British rounds, and was Sprint Champion a few times if I remember right (which I might not be doing).

I have just learnt that Ted Williams passed away on 28th August.

He will be remembered in many spheres of the sport, a former hillclimber and prolific racer of historic sports cars, and even briefly in historic F1. Who can forget his huge, red (and invariably immaculate !) March 707 in historic GT events.

To Tecla, all his family, and his many friends, condolences.

RIP Ted.

Sad to hear this: I will always associate the March 707 (driven with vigour) with Ted. Not a bad legacy.

Very sorry to hear this, when I initially got interested in historic racing Ted was thete with the March 707 and later with the F1 Ligier. ROP.

Oh gosh, that’s sad. Remember him well in the Hesketh at Weston Speed Trials and the March 707 in Thundersports. RIP

A lovely pic of the March, with (I think) David Franklin's McLaren M6 sneaking along behind. Thank you 68targa. Ted usually referred to the March as 'The Boeing' !

1982 BGP support race was the first time I got to see and above all hear Group 7 Can Am cars in person and unsurprisingly they, including Ted's stupendous March 707, made a much bigger impression than all of those lovely photo's from the late 60's and early 70's with which I had to make do until then.

Condolences to Teds family and friends.
