Gasly won with an AT and Ocon with an Alpine....

All of them were "lucky" wins.

At least Sainz in his CV can write he was slightly more competitive than Norris at Mclaren.

Checo won from dead last with strong pace.
Gasly won with a lucky red flag. Ocon with a major accident that had him lead the race lap 1.
Both had good races but you can’t compare it with Shakir. At worst, Checo was making the podium, on pace, from 18th on lap 1!

Gasly was in a bad place but I think that's rather harsh on Albon. He was in his second year of F1 and driving a much more difficult Red Bull. I think he was doing pretty well and was harshly thrown out when Perez became available.

Remember the thread “will red bull dump Albon”?
He spent 1.5years in Red Bull, not showing anything (his best race was his last one). He was slow and destroying tyres. Complaining about being raced hard by the Torro Rosso guys.

He might be a nice guy - but he had A LOT of time and showed nothing.

If he was harshly thrown out - how was Perez thrown out of Racing Point?

I think Perez will stay in that RB seat for a good few years yet, on rolling yearly contracts until another team threaten the WCC.

With Max as good as he is, they can afford a solid P4 driver and still bag it.

Perez is not toxic and u threatening to a team dynamic, possibly even more than Bottas who was a textbook team wingman.

Sergio is a good version of Rubens and David, but seemingly more easy going and creating less fuss.
He seems to be a better overall than Sainz though. Good pick by Red Bull.

Who could RBR even replace Perez with… this season he’s done enough, and I think Red Bull has enough margin with the car and Max to be able to carry a underperforming number 2…. Also Red Bull have tried a number of times now to have a team mate who is able to keep pace with Max and that hasn’t exactly been successful.

As a neutral fan to Red Bull I’d love to see someone with similar pace to Max in the second seat but realistically I don’t think there’s anyone on the grid like that right now. A younger Lewis would’ve been interesting but I doubt he would be able to keep pace in the coming years. and Leclerc still seems way too inconsistent to me right now…. I have a feeling it will be a boring few seasons…. If like me you’re hoping for a close title fight you have to hope Red Bull drop the ball.

I mean Bottas, Russell both had awful luck and Max was eliminated by Leclerc. It was a lucky win and would have finished out the podium if nothing "strange" happened.

Also, he had the third-best car of the grid.

Like I said I didnt want to start arguments.

It was not my intention to argue, I was only curious why you didn't mention Vettel.

Max was eliminated by Leclerc. But Checo was also sent to the back of the grid. That’s not luck.

Bottas and Russel were unlucky. That’s why I said podium was 100% possible on pure pace.

Don't forget the psychological impact of being Verstappen's teammate.

Bottas eventually crumbled under the pressure of being Hamilton's teammate. Perez seems to have a good handle on it. Perhaps the statements that he wants to win the title are a bit far-fetched but it might be what he needs to keep his morale up.

Eddie Irvine was remarkably honest about the pressure of being Schumacher's teammate, I believe he likened it to being hit with a hammer on the head each fortnight. I do feel that this part of racing is undervalued.

Ah sorry you misunderstand me. I know if *I* mentioned Vettel it would result in a lot of arguments with people, so it is easier to just not bother.
