Here is a story about a uniquely Australian event that has been going since 1914, Surely historical enough.

I love the photos of the participants.:

See the bottom of this for the rules on what is eligible. Basically pre 1939 type of cars.

Lake Perkolilli is a significant part of Terry Walker's book, Around the Houses, even though there are no houses for quite some distance...

But Terry also records that hillclimbs were organised up to eight years before racing at the lake, so the suggestion that it was the scene of the first organised motor sporting events in WA is incorrect.

All the same, it looks like a lot of dusty fun and a chance to get really old cars cracking at their best pace.

A couple of TV series have had footage of this. A well heeled Brit had a car brought out from England. Way to good to drive in bulldust. Or even bounce over bush roads on a semi. That was Outback Truckers.

There was another show as well, name forgotten and I suspect the same production company.

The Dash is exclusively for 1939 cars.

The 2022 Dash was held last Saturday.

This article has the results and some fabulous photos of the competitors.

105 entries...

That's quite incredible, really. Cars mostly built specifically for this event.

For pre 1939 cars

I have written to the Administrators on several occasions asking them to add the words "FOR PRE 1939 CARS" to the tread title.

I believe this age limitation makes the event unique and wonderful.

Alas they have not done it. I feel the change would more adequately reflect the nature of the event and attract more viewers and posters.

I think the age limit is unique in world motor racing and should be acknowledged.

Sorry Terry, but we’ve received nothing from you asking for a title change until you posted the above. As always we’re happy to change any thread title if the thread starter requests it, and this has now been done.

There is a very high-quality book on the history of Lake Perkolilli: link ---- I have a copy and it is incredible.

And apparently at least two books on the revival itself in 2019 and 2022.

Hi Tim, I simply wanted to expand the thread heading to more accurately reflect the marvelous topic.

I did not wish to cause any trouble.

I clicked on "contact us" at the bottom of the TNF treads index.

I typed the message, and clicked that I wasn't a robot.

I then pressed Submit.

I assumed you had got it

I did it again a day later as no response.

What did I do wrong?

That ‘Contact Us’ tab is for general comments and queries on the whole Autosport website, and I agree it’s a bit confusing having it at the bottom of forum pages as it doesn’t actually make contact with any of us who help run these forums. I’ve no idea who actually gets to read messages sent via that link.

The best way to attract our attention is to send one of us a Personal Message (PM). Vitesse2 and I are the current TNF moderators, and we will usually respond very quickly to any request such as yours. Hope this helps.
