Now something new and unexpected - got an email today from BRM offering some different type of membership for the „BRM community“. It is probaly not the thing for me, it does include the possibility of attending special events etc, I am to far off to be able to use that to the full.

But there is one important quote which might be of interest to some here…

The launch of the BRM Paddock Pass coincides with our official announcement that we have commissioned Doug Nye to write the highly anticipated, ‘BRM - The Saga of British Racing Motors Vol. 4’“

Hmm, yes, just like Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to build the
Sagrada familia.

Fortunately the route I use when I walk to work does not feature a tram track.

Very LOL...

Quick Google, I see "the steeples and most of the church's structure are to be completed by 2026". My money is on Vol 4 prior to that! no pressure Doug.

Barcelona is one of my favourite cities, my first visit was on the family Griswolds European Safari  in 2005, my last was in 2017, I was amazed at how much progress La Sagrada made in the interim. Wonderful memories.

Vol 4, yippeeee

Just as well you turned down that part in Coronation Street too. Hope you didn't leave the manuscript of V4 behind the bar of the Rover's Return.

In passing it looks like Harry Mundy was channelled by the designer of the BRM Paddock Pass page.

Does the recent announcement mean there is an Estimated Date of Publication (EDP) for V4 ?

Tangentially, does this announcement mean that one has to be a dues paying member of "BRM" to be assured of purchasing a copy at a reasonable price ?

Best,  Ross

Vaguely coincidentally, I received an offer from Autosport today regarding this. to quote: "Autosport is delighted to offer our subscribers a special discount on BRM’s new private membership club, The BRM Paddock Pass. It’s an exciting, innovative and exclusive membership experience giving Autosport subscribers unprecedented experiential, lifestyle and digital benefits as the BRM reawakening project aims to honour the famous marque’s past and build its future."

Don't know about you, but at my age I'm not sure I'm ready for unprecedented experiential, lifestyle and digital benefits.

Her indoors definitely would not approve. She reckons it takes long enough to calm me down after a trip to Goodwood three times a year.

I did note that one of the prizes on offer included broken bits of V16. Should be a few of those in the undergrowth at Silverstone near the old grid. OK I added the "broken".

The V16 in the paddock at the Revival was a beautifully shiny piece of engineering art. Does anyone know what the outboard tank was for? I forgot to ask - maybe an extra oil tank?

That 'outboard' tank is in fact the standard Mark I inboard tank merely exposed because the covering body panel had been left off for the race after some concern at how much heat was accumulating within the system.

Mention of digital benefits reminds me that it really is time I booked a prostate examination.

“…as we reawaken the BRM marque, honor its past and build its future”

I wonder why they aim to honor rather than honour British Racing Motors?

“… an inside track into the vibrant, fun and inclusive motorsport world in the company of Britain's first F1 team”. I also wonder if Raymond Mays et al thought of themselves as an F1 or a Formula One team?

If they thought of themselves as anything beyond being 'British Racing Motors', I'd guess it would be a 'Grand Prix Team' (or words to that effect); 'Formula 1' was, after all, simply a set of specifications (a formula) for a category of car - not the name of a sport, as it now seems to be for many...!

Because their spell-check is set on US English rather than His Majesty's English?

Is this just a money making venture by the Owen family?

Hah - would you consider BRM ever to have been a money making venture "by the Owen family"?

They will have to sell a lot of Paddock Passes to pay for the six continuation V16s.
