Yes, the thread title was so good I stole it.

It's race time! Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez line up on the front row after a fuel-related twist of fate saw Max Verstappen abandon most of his qualifying laps and wind up 8th. He'll be marginally more pissed off than Lewis Hamilton, whose car was working well and probably, maybe could've reached the front row, and in all likelihood a lot less pissed off than George Russell, who had a terrible nightmare of a qualifying, missed Q3 and now starts stone last after an engine change.

It's also raining. How about that! Pit and tyre strategy will probably be determined by the vagaries of incidents and the relative certainty of the track slowly drying as the evening develops in its unhurried, sticky tropical way.

Weather permitting, the race gets underway at 1pm BST, adjust according to taste / that big graphic of race times around the world that SophieB and TomNokoe alway manages to find and I never do.

Enjoy! First Singapore since 2019! Hope it's a good one!

The rain here is horrendous. The track in front of me has 2cm high standing water because the drainage system is flooded from all the barrier covering most of it.

Yesterday the rained stopped at 520pm and it took almost till the end of qualifying at 10pm to have a Dry line forming.

You make your guess if we will have a race today :(

Think we might be waiting around a fair bit over the next 3 hours........but hopefully when the current downpour ends shortly it will hold off for a while and we can get underway.

It was supposed to get underway at 1pm BST (but clearly is going to be delayed by the weather.)

Lol, I clearly misread Radio 5 Extra's schedule. Always catches me out how Singapore schedules qualifying at a different time to the race.

Yeah don't think I've ever seen this much water on track, maybe Malaysia 09.

But as we saw yesterday the drying takes ages so very concerned for this actually getting going, even when it stops

Can someone give a poor ignorant soul an update on what the "three hour rule" is? Assume it's not related to the three second rule?

Yeah, no chance, send them out in that weather and you'll have them doing 10 minutes per lap with how flooded the track is.

If the 3h countdown starts in 23 minutes, don’t think we will have a race today.

They have a 3 hour window to do run the race.

Yeah, they will. It is hammering down at the moment to be fair so I can understand the start delay (as much as it frustrates me).

1.30 BST start I reckon.

The annoying thing will potentially be how long they wait after the rain has stopped. We know the drill. Wait until the track is pretty much inters conditions.

To start or does it have to end within those 3 hours ?

Basically, after 1pm BST there will be no cars running after 4pm BST (whatever happens). Sorry for those not in the UK regarding my times!

Remember the 3 hour rule was introduced* after Canada 2010 took around 8 hours to finish.

*it was a 4 hour rule when it got introduced.

If all of the laps cannot be completed here is how the points are calculated for up to 25%, 50% and 75% race distance:

3 hour countdown starts at 1pm uk, race will be declared finished at 4pm uk regardless. Points awarded dependent on laps complete at 4pm UK.

If the race starts at 3pm BST (for example) the race will be an hour long.

I think that 3 hours is too short and they should go back to 4.

On the track at the moment, but the rain is crazy. Still they think they will start at 20:30. Hopefully the rain is gone in 30min

I wonder what the rationale for the rule is. It can't be to allow Sky to broadcast Ted's Notebook on schedule.

Kravitz seems to think the three hour window begins only when the race itself starts. I must admit, I don't know either way!

There's normally a 2 hour maximum race distance rule. In case of a suspension, this will be added to that period up to a maximum time of three hours.

So if there's a 1:15 suspension, for example, maximum race duration is reduced to 1:45 (according to my understanding of that rule)

I always thought the enforced time limit was due so they don't lose the light, so to speak, is that not the case?

The on screen message was "Whole start procedure delayed" My inference from that is that the 3 hour countdown may not start at scheduled race start time.

I remember reading that was indeed because of TV schedule.

Always the way. Understand there are procedures and safety guidelines to follow but F1 has been guilty of missing the moment before when conditions have been like this. Wasn't basic communication part of the reason it took so long for them get cars out on track in one of the more recent wet races?

Rain has stopped entirely in the pitlane, and it looks like it is draining decently. Hopefully, the delay won't be significant? Hopefully?
