Might I draw attention to the passing of motor-cycle star rider and (like John Surtees) seven-time World Champion Phil Read yesterday.  See TNF's associated motor-cycling Forum.  He was a somewhat controversial character (as indeed was our John) and some of the motor-cycle press obits certainly tell it as it was.

Regardless, he was a great British rider and should be honoured as such.  Sincere condolences to his family and friends...

Hear hear, Doug.

No doubt he, and Mike, and Barry, and John are thrashing it out around the stars, dazzling all with their talents.

RIP Phil.

Sad news for me. I met him on several occasions thanks to my father, he seemed a good bloke to me.

Rest in Peace Phil Read. Shouldn't this really be in the Motorcycle Racing section?

Of course it should (as well) but I posted it here intentionally to draw the parallel with our crossover hero - John Surtees.  Many racers are Racers, regardless of the number of wheels, and many like-minded enthusiasts simply celebrate that fact.
