Looks like the new Singapore layout is only temporary.

Looks like potentially an improvement? Should result in the lap being 20 seconds shorter at any rate.

I love the photo mockup in that Racefans article too, looks like one of Michael Schumacher's Ferraris racing with a Tyrrell six-wheeler and a Saudia Williams.

That's too much i think, it will be more like 8 - 10 seconds improvement and 2 or 3 extra laps in the race

Bring back the Singapore Sling. The best part of the circuit. Sod the drivers complaining about it being bumpy and a bit micky-mouse. It was a great spectacle...and it was safe enough. I'm sure it could be made safer these days without the massive sausage kerbs, although I liked that aspect of it.

So we will lose Piquets Corner as well as the tight left right underneath the grandstands. The next corner along will need some safety changes as the cars will now be approaching much faster.
Also the circuit will lose a little bit of character.
Also turns 11/12 look like a slightly different layout

Which leave it with no character at all. Just a floodlit concrete walled urban street that could be absolutely anywhere.

Ugh. I know this makes me sound like someone who dont want anything to change. But I really hope they dont lose the immense physical challenge the race is today.
We need different challenges and not just all in the same box.
You can almost sense that after the race next year they will decide that the new shorter layout is better and will remain.

Is there a side by side? I don't know the Singapore layout intuitively enough to know if that map is old or new. I guess it takes out Piquet Corner?

I wish they'd renamed it to that!

If I am not mistaken corners 20 - 23 have been eliminated.

I hope so. Nothing is worse than seeing F1 cars clumsily negotiate a “stadium section”.

I’ve called it that since 2009.

It'll better provide an improved spectacle because it's going to make the track stand out less in terms of characteristics and I don't like it if the spectacle is not sufficiently improved.

16-19, that dogleg at Marina Bay.

Ah, so Turns 16/17 and 18/19 will be used again once the new stadium has been built.

Found an image with the old layout that resembles the new image and put them side by side :

To me this looks like an improvement.

Much better. That twisty bits in the end are very annoying to drive in F1 games and don't do anything for racing.

Maybe they will relocate one of the DRS zones to that (effectively) new straight?
Posted 20 October 2022 - 10:47
That's a no brainer.
I'm glad it's a one off; I like seeing the drivers work hard in a race, and getting a full two hours to watch (especially as it's usually after Monza). But it will be interesting to see what it's like next year.
While we are at it, reinstate Monaco to the full grand Prix length. That should make it more entertaining too by forcing more pit stops due to the tyres being worked harder.
Agree. In my opinion, an F1 track should work cars hard and drivers hard.
