That is terrible news about someone I have become acquainted with over the years since joining TNF, sending Simon best wishes and for a full and speedy recovery.

I hear via his son Tom that Simon is not at all well, unconscious but stable. I for one wish him a full recovery.

I met him a few times at Oulton Gold Cup way back in the early 00s and found him a joy to talk with.
I hope he recovers quickly and is soon walking the circuits again.

Latest from son Tom :-
Saw Arron Sr this evening. His eyes opened. First time I’ve seen them in over a week. There have been complications, but he’s doing much better now than was hoped just a few days ago. We’ll take that.

The last 12 days have been emotionally and physically draining. And we don’t yet know if, how, when that’s going to improve. Things are very uncertain. But I just want to say thanks again for all the support. It’s been more valuable than you can possibly know.

Many of us have been through similar experiences... Stay strong, show the medics he really, really matters.

What dreadful illness has struck him? I always assumed he was a good deal younger than most of us on here?

Posted a minute ago by Tom on Twitter:
Dad remains stable, but in a very serious condition. After a positive start to last week, serious complications have arisen. We don’t know if/when he will recover or what that may look like.
We, with my sister taking the lead, will continue to let him know how loved he is.

I hate to bring such bad news.... I was shocked when I read it. Simon Arron and Michael C. Brown were two of the persons who encouraged me and gave some of the best tips for my developing career as a writer. I have no words.

I just saw that too on Twitter. This is such desperately sad news. Unlike many here, I only knew him through his writing and his TNF contributions. But he was so obviously a wonderful person whose passion, intelligence and warmth shone through. I can barely believe how affected I am by this news about someone I never got to meet. My heart aches for his family - and for those here who were privileged to call him their friend.

I never met him, but we spoke on Facebook and by email, but he helped me a lot, and I felt shock, just as well as that December morning.
