@motorsport
The winner of each #F1 grand prix will receive a new FIA medal, starting with today's #AbuDhabiGP.

Here's the full story:
https://www.motorspo...bi-gp/10402795/

Not Bernie’s old idea but just…

The FIA medal will be awarded as part of the podium ceremony to mark the driver's achievement, ensuring drivers can keep them as a personal record of their achievement.

Although drivers are awarded trophies on the podium for winning races, many of them are then kept by their teams depending on their contractual agreements. Drivers can often then have replicas made should they want the trophies for themselves.

The FIA medal will be a "unique personal memento to commemorate their outstanding achievement" by winning the race, and is also intended to highlight the history that each grand prix victor will become part of.

Bring back the wreaths, I don’t give a hoot about sponsors being covered up.

I am wondering quite what the point is. We already have a reward for the winner!

And what if teams start wanting to keep the medal as well?

Maybe it will be a crypto coin de jour  :rotfl: . There is still enough of them that they could go a whole season without duplication.

Just get rid of the trophies then… teams already get one. Just make constructor trophies for too 3 or whatevs

Until the team starts keeping the medals

Bring back laurel wreaths. Or mandate that the teams may not appropriate the drivers' trophies. The teams can have copies made, excluded from the budget cap.

Wasn't Niki Lauda an exception in that he refused to let McLaren take his trophies?

I mean in the grand scheme of things it is rather unimportant. And is there a mandate that the teams may not take the medals?

Did they have medals today?  Hopefully nothing like the sprint race things, as they are a ridiculous size and just feel a bit too... Jim'll Fix It.

All that crap just ends up in a cardboard box in the loft. Invariably left there when one move's house. Niki had the right idea, he gave everything to the guy at the filling station in his hometown.

With Liberty in charge we will soon have WWE style belts for the champion and championship leader, also one for the team principal leading the constructors championship.

Just make a rule that the teams aren't allowed to keep trophies instead

Simple solution........ Have the race sponsors give two trophies for winning, 1 for the team and 1 for the driver. That way it doesn't cost the team, the driver, the track, the FIA or Liberty.

The first thing I thought of when i heard of this idea, was Muttley:

Why start at the last race of the season, when not start the first race of 2023?

I know Mclaren kept the trophies (don't know if they still do). What other teams do the same?

Red Bull's trophies got nicked a couple of years ago from memory. Didn't some get found in a lake?

Exactly. No need for teams to take the driver’s trophy when they get given a winning trophy anyway.
