 2018.

This is correct except for the fact that the car has still been designed, built and ran by Sauber Motorsport AG on behalf of the Alfa Romeo F1-team.

Which means they should rename it to Schrödinger's Sauber.

The official entry as I understand it have not included 'Sauber', not is the team owned by Sauber - This there should be no Sauber F1 team, only way to return would be for Mr. Sauber to buy or start a new team.

Lotus were not Lotus

Lotus were not Lotus

Alfa Romeo were not Alfa Romeo

Or they could just go back to calling themselves Sauber, because they still exist. McLaren didn’t stop existing in 1970 and Ferrari didn’t stop existing in 1988.

For a more relevant comparison, Arrows was still Arrows when Walkinshaw bought in and renamed it from “Footwork”.

Sauber is still the constructor. As per namesake of the cars which give it away, IE the C43, as well as the "Engineered by Sauber" or "Sauber made" stickers on the cars ever since Alfa Romeo became title sponsor.

Spoiler

That should teach me (again) not to trust Wikipedia, I stand corrected and Sauber can be Sauber, until they are no longer Sauber. Where I am coming from IS like posted there, the official entries as 'insert name of choice'.

Only if they enter the Championship as Dorilton.

I am not contrarian at all, I suggest that the teams are called what their name is - and I do not agree just slapping a name on a Ferrari engine should add to Alfa Romeo illustrious history, as how the  last two iterations of Lotus had zero to do with Lotus and their illustrious history.

Talks to cap race attendance for team personnel

https://www.pitpass....-team-personnel

Considering limiting all team personnel to attend a maximum number of races in a season (20 races?), to cut down on exhaustion of personnel and give them some down-time.

Teams would have to factor in temporary people for the additional races within the cost cap.

Excludig the drivers, obviously.

Haas's reserve drivers for this season will be Pietro Fittipaldi (also racing in IndyCar) and Oliver Bearman (already fulfilling the same role at Ferrari).

There are bound to be sponsor / contractual entanglements that prevent such a thing from happening. After all, a 7 time WDC is going in one direction with a non-WDC going in the other. It would not be an equal swap from a sponsors perspective.

The Dynamic of a Mercedes driver battling a Ferrari driver, both of whom knowing one of them will be taking the others seat next season, Hamilton being supposedly treated as number 1 at Mercedes. Sainz presumed to play second fiddle to lLclerc before being dropped at end of season.

Yes contracts will be in place, however the season will be fraught with potential of all kinds of trouble.

Mercedes's statement are very clear on it being a full 2024 season with Hamilton as a driver - that put my theory to rest.

Schumacher became 7-time champion with and through Ferrari, Hamilton arrives with the same number of titles.
In my opinion it will remain that way. I don't see this Ferrari beating Red Bull, unless they miss the mark with their own engine in the future.
But by then Hamilton will have definitely passed his peak.
I also think Leclerc is a much bigger talent than Russell, so Hammie is up for something in the autumn of his career...

The timing is so strange.. right before the start of the new season. This plays all in Red Bull's hands, the 2 biggest competitors with a bomb waiting to go off in the teams.

I think Leclerc is faster than Russell, but his tendency for errors has allowed Sainz to run him close on through two of their three seasons as teammates, and Hamilton will make for much tougher competition than Sainz.

Personally I expect Leclerc to win the qualifying battle, but come race day Hamilton will fight back and be the more consistent.

Russell is giving Coulthard vibes. Very good on his day, but everything has to align. I know he's very young still, but I am not convinced he's enough of a leader yer to have an inexperienced team mate. Someone like Albon or Gasly could run him close and force Mercedes to question his ability if he doesn't beat them. Ocon is the obvious shoe in but I just don't think he has it. Plus he doesn't play nicely with others.

Hulk would be a good stop gap, it's evident he is bitterly fed up at Haas. Has nothing to prove either.

Would Mercedes call on Bottas?

The infatuation with Hulkenberg by so many here is fascinating.

Mercedes may lose Hamilton, they will be looking for a replacement who can step in and be Hamilton or as close to from the beginning, if Antonelli win F2 I expect that he will roll straight in there, if he do not then Mercedes will put in a bridge driver on a 1 year contract, my guess would be Albon, everyone know that Albon is not a 1 to 1 of Hamilton, there is no 1 to 1 currently with exception of Verstappen, and he will most assuredly NOT take Hamiltons seat.

As I see it then the 2025 Mercedes drivers replacing Hamilton will be

Antonelli

Albon

Ocon

Schumacher

Why do people keep bringing up Schumacher as a viable option while dismissing other drivers that have proven to be better....? Sainz, Perez, Hulk, Ricciardio would all better be options. Not saying I expect one of those to get in there, I really don't know but they all should be way above Mick in any list. Only way Mick could get that drive is when all the other options just say 'nah...'. .

And on that note, we close up 2024 silly season.
