I’ll take a No. 4, No. 16, No. 23, No.55 and a No.63 to take away please.
Oh and a No.5. Oh you’ve taken that off the menu. A No.14 then please.
Would I like a No.33 and a No.44? No thank you. Last time I had those together I got very ill.

Oh it's beyond COVID now. They have used the virus to successfully bring in a system where all of the population's movements are controlled by a QR code on their phone. If a shopping centre gets a positive test, suddenly everybody who checked in there is unable to go anywhere as their pass goes red.
Now extrapolate that onto people who attended an opposition rally or protest against Uighur imprisonment, or tie it in with the social credit system. You can see where it is going...
We shouldn't be planning to race in China for many years, given the human rights violations there. Though I know morality is barely an afterthought when the dollar bills come out...
It was extremely popular to say China lied about all their numbers 2 years ago. Now that's not working it's how evil they are for controlling covid

Hardly surprising given China's ruling party's unwillingness to admit they were wrong with the "zero covid" policy. We'll all be suffering from their periodic lockdowns for many years to come.
As for what, if any, race will replace it?
Russia? Second race in Saudi? Belarus street circuit? Second Qatar grand prix?
If it were me, which it emphatically is not, I'd be lobbying for Turkey or Portugal (Portimao). Actually if it were me I'd not fill the gap and would scrap several existing races as the calendar is ludicrous already.
Agreed on the packed calendar .
As for choosing future race venues, F1 and the FIA seems to have a propensity to pick Middle Eastern theocratic dictatorships - 4 races a season so at the monent .
China might not be anyone's first choice for a number of reasons, but it's an important global player and market beyond ... well, significant financial contributions by insignificant countries with questionable cultures .

There are means of controlling an outbreak. One is to provide care, medication, support. Another is to weld a sufferer's doors shut, and come back later to see if they survived, or dispose of the body. The "evil" label could be applied to the latter method.

Big gaps like that are annoying. Oh well.

Logistics would be the biggest issue. Imagine everyone manages to show up at the race, with all COVID restrictions in place, except the cars.
2025. It was only extended this time last year! Absolute madness as China have shown zero intention to change their utterly insane policies.
They made slight adjustments recently. But to F1 it wouldn't make much difference.

I have sweet and sour feelings about this development frankly....
I liked the track, but not a fan of how they have handled the entire Covid situation after gifting it to the world....

Politics is for the Paddock Club .... except when its not, it seems
As a "mere fan", I am disappointed as its a good race .... and though I dont mind a hole in the calendar as we have too many races now, I think - I prefer a more evenly spaced calendar, esp at the start of the year.
Also - what's with all the China hate all of a sudden? China is no different a place to what it was say 5 to 10 years ago ... its just that now the TV is telling you to hate China..... if you were not turning off the TV and refusing to watch the race, say, 5 years ago - but now feel strongly that F1 should not be in China ... save it.... its not even an original thought. Youre just a robot programmed by the media.

I've been reading posts criticizing the Chinese Grand Prix as long as I've been here.
Obviously the politics of an advanced and continental nation like China are too complicated to sum up in a forum post, or a book.

They should scrap this race for good.

... or, indeed, any advanced nation.

Or indeed any less advanced ones. I am being windy and tautological.
How many days till the car launches?

China's zero covid policiy is completely nuts at this point.
Omicron is so mild and far less dangerous compared to the first variants that could potentially kill any healthy person.

I thought Fort Detrick was in the US? It closed down around the same time as Vape-gate. I wish the rest of the world handled covid like China.
As someone with experience of China and still having vested interests there, I can't tell if you're joking or not.
As for the GP - track was pretty good but I won't miss it all that much.

USA part funded the work in the Wuhan lab .... if that is where it came from (though most now accept that is the best candidate) .... but somehow everyone hates only China for Covid - like that lab wasnt a multinational collaboration.
That said - disagree 100% with how China handled Covid - and is still handling COVID .... only disagree about 60% with what the West did .... Africa and Florida did the best job - just looking at stats - but everyone says they are backward and unscientific ..... so how come they have the best numbers - both health and economy??
.... but none of that has anything to do with the race - so far as I know anyway .... have we been told the race is off because of the crazy Covid policies over there? ... wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason but have not seen it in the thread ... and I dont really follow any other media at the moment (at least as far as F1 is concerned).

Nice way to get the last say on the politics.
I think it's quite clear that the race is off for the exact reasons that have been stated - China has strict quarantine rules in place, those rules negate the possibility of holding the race and China is not prepared to relax the rules for F1.

What do you mean by "Africa did the best job"? They didnt even do mass testing probably because of lack of money. No testing means no covid cases or deaths.
Egypt for example has about 24k official deaths however they also reported excess deaths of above 300k since 2020.

Ha, good discussion of the F1 race in China, really relevant stuff all round.
