Hello all of you who are interested in prewar GP racing.

My internet provider (Helsinki phone company) has decided no longer to support websites and will delete the "Golden Era"  site by New year. (According to them websites are old technology that only a few privateers have an interest to make anymore)

I have therefore bought a domain name and moved the Golden Era website to it.

The new address is thus www.goldenera.fi    (should be easy to remember)   ;)

Hope to see you there.

Regards

Leif Snellman

Consider the bookmark updated!

I don't know if I've said this to you before but many, many thanks for the continuing research, writing and behind the scenes tech stuff that goes into the Golden Era site. An amazing resource, one of my favourite places on the web.

Can you share any plans for future topics? I've seen that 1919 (C'est pour la France) has popped up recently.

And me ... it is a staggering amount of work that you have undertaken and to have this available for all to share is wonderful.  Thank you.

Thanks for letting us know, Leif. I agree with everything the others said. Your website is one of the best things on the net. Long may it continue.

Thanks indeed for the update Leif, I find that as I get older I'm drawn more and more to the pre-WII races.

Thanks for your nice comments.  :)

The hill climb pages have been moved as well and are now also to be found at http://www.goldenera.fi/hcw0.htm if you want to link straight to them.

Can you share any plans for future topics?

We have not made any decisions yet, We'll first try to improve the 1938 race reports and then we'll see.

Sorry for this primitive way of putting this subject back to the first page just in case someone  missed it when I posted it first time.

You probably know all this Leif but since the site move the SEO seems to have taken a big hit. Googling "golden era of Grand Prix racing" no longer returns your site anywhere near the top of the listings. (Although frustratingly a cached page from the old domain still displays high up!)

Is there anything practical the forum hive mind can do to help?

The Google page link from the old site address actually redirects to a general FAQ page in Finnish if you click on it. Not helpful!

However, if you click on the three vertical dots on the Google result you can actually send them feedback about results. I know nothing about the practicalities of SEO, but maybe sending them an explanation and details of the new address is worth a try?

You can ask Google to index your website

Just tried to access the site and nearly had a heart attack thinking it was gone!

Fortunately, the search led me here and I can say thank you to the man, the legend for the amazing site and content that I've been enjoying for more than a decade!

On SEO terms, the best thing that can be done for indexing will be for people to keep linking to the new one - unfortunately, because you didn't own the previous domain and have no way to place a validation, you won't be able to submit a change of domain request to Google, unless you still have the site in your Google Search Console account - then it may allow you to, though I suspect it won't allow it without revalidating the old address (impossible). At the moment it will be being penalised for duplicate content, though hopefully Google will 'realise' what's happened before too long. In the meantime, I'd advise adding 'canonical' tags to the pages that self-reference (happy to help with any of this if it would be any use).

All Leif needs to do is go to https://search.googl...h-console/about, click Start Now and follow the on-screen instructions.

After uploading the Google sitemap to his server via FTP and verifying it in the console, Google will start to index the page.
