It is gonna be interesting. I'm looking forward to it, specially the front suspension, if it is Pull-Rod or Push-Rod!?

Should change the title to technical thread.

Green suits you, @svandoorne

. The new AMF1 test and reserve driver got down to business on his first day at our Silverstone HQ,

meeting the team and getting some laps in on the simulator!

AM is probably the most interesting team this year - some new high profile engineers plus Alonso make them a bit of a dark horse for picking up a surprise win.

I thought their turnaround last season after a pretty dismal start was impressive, especially their race pace by the second half of the season was as good as anyone in the midfield, if not strongest at times.

Their recovery was kinda similar to Mercedes in a way, I’m assuming that was part down to Fallows and co coming onboard early last year.

I think there’s a good chance they could make a big jump this year and hopefully be much closer to the front with a hopefully still motivated Alonso.

I predict a relatively similar season for Alonso to last year (regular finishes in P6, P7 etc), except with better reliability and a clearer gap between him and Stroll. I don't think it should take Alonso long to get on top of things.

If Stroll gets close to him over a season then I think we know the old lion is tiring out.

Stroll has his moments, so I wouldn't necessarily expect a thrashing in the way that he took apart Vandoorne at McLaren for instance.

That alone would make this the best car he's had since 2014. I suspect the midfield will be super competitive this year though, especially with an inevitable reliability boost from Alpine and a strong McLaren. Hopefully the technical team deliver.

Will be interesting to see the dynamic between the two drivers as the season develops.

It usually starts off with Alonso all sunshine and smiles and then gradually he starts applying the stirring and politics.

Alonso may feel the need to moderate his usual combatative off track approach given that it is the Strolls team.

Well, that only took half a page.

Now that the McLaren thread is all sweetness and light, there is a vacancy to join the Mercedes and Ferrari threads for inter-team toxicity.

It's only testing.

They claim to have some loopholes in the regs that have led them to implement some 'nice-to-have' innovations.
So no double-diffuser but there should be a few more details on the AMR23 like the AMR22's rear wing.

Hopefully they aren't easily copyable like the rear wing.

I don't have any expectations either. Talk is talk, the stopwatch will create the hype.

Fully expecting AM to be scrapping for the lower points positions (at best) this year.

Matt Bishop binned off by Aston Martin

Runours doing the rounds that Stroll Snr didn’t like the hippy crusades of Seb & Bish - and that the final straw was Sebs oil protests which upset Aramco.

May be bollocks - or may have some seeds of truth. Who knows.

Same actually. AM could very well be best of rest with the 4th best car, and in that case, I won't be surprised with Alonso top 5 in the WDC

At least with Alonso you will get 100% every time as long as the car allows him to perform.  If there are wild swings between good and bad races, we will know that it is the car that is inconsistent, not the driver being on it one week and then distracted by Greta Thunberg the next race and coming nowhere like Vettel.  Meanwhile, Lance will put in his usual two or three great races whilst being inconsistently more or less rubbish the rest of the time.

I have been wrong many times, with that in mind I can not see Aston Marting breaking top-4.

In no particular order

Mercedes

Red Bull

Ferrari

Alpine

McLaren

Then the other teams, presumeably with Aston Martin on top of the midfield, thus

Aston Martin

Alpha Tauri

Alfa Romeo

Haas

Williams

ASTON MARTIN GOT IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK FROM ALONSO AFTER HIS RUN

https://formularapid...-after-his-run/

I have high hopes for AstonMartin. I think the fight for "best of the rest" could be between AstonMartin and McLaren.

Alpine, producing a competitive car is a must for lots of reasons but their driver lineup is gonna make them irrelevant in the fight for "best of the rest". IMO 6th could be their best.

Very excited by this venture. Bring on testing.

Is Mike Krack the most anonymous team principal on the grid? I feel like I never even saw him interviewed during 2022.

Not engaging with the media?  That got Arrivabene sacked.

Depends on the country I guess. They had a rather long talk with him at every race on German Sky - because Vettel, obviously. So doesn't seem like he didn't engage, rather if anyone wanted to talk to him

I guess if Arrivabene had been successful he wouldn't have been sacked whether he talked or not
