Both drivers bottled it in qualy, car had pace for 4th-6th today

True but only through other bottle jobs and penalties happening too. RB/Ferrari/Merc were all quicker so P7-8 would've been the max if everyone ran clean.

Stroll anonymously climbed up the field and kudos to him for delivering a great result, it seems the Brazil weekend did his confidence a world of good and he’s coming on strong as the season ends. Not sure if that will make a difference to his form/driving starting next season or if it’s just a flash in the pan that he has from time to time.

Happy for the breakthrough regarding the car performance!

We had the chance to close the gap to McLaren even more. Sigh!

How the usual suspects are coming out of their holes. I’m sure this would never have happened to Kimi    Well they have had to wait for a very long time

Good drive by Stroll but he only was P10 after L1 because Fernando and one or two others dropped half the field behind him

Yup should have gotten a penalty.

I don't see why Alonso should have gotten a penalty. He didn't hit anyone directly as a result of his loss of control. The Alfa running into him after he lost control was just bad luck for the Alfa. You wouldn't give Alonso a penalty for that.

Ahw... that good 'ol 2014. And should be nice if people had the balls to congratulate with good results, but then no one is around.

Austin was a breakthrough for Stroll, not Brazil. I don't know if they found something in the set-up or something but he's been performing on a completely different level than before since Austin.

Imo Suzuka Race was already a good improvement until his retirement he was doing good

And here's Fernando saying he lost the car.   So he does own up to his mistake.

Good job by Stroll and Fernando made his own bed with that mistake, still he got a few points.

Yeah to me it looked like the oil + oil-dry affected him as it did other drivers. The back of his car went around like it was on ice. Nice comeback to get back to his original starting position though. Even had he been able to make T1 stick, I don't think he'd have finished too much higher than he did, but I haven't really looked at that too closely. Who knows?

Excellent race for Lance! Kudos to him.

One of the stupidest moves by FA. Dusty inside at T1 ruined many people's race. Almost moronic  :o

LOL I guess all the other guys who were affected by the oil were morons too.

In 21 races he made his first mistake into T1 similar to verstappen I'm sure you could do better

...and similar to Sainz, and others iirc.

LOL, yep ... but some will never miss a chance to get their shots in. Who needs facts? Sad, really.

Not bad I guess, P7 with Alonso, without Perez going out of the track would have been P8 anyway. I expected more from Stroll this time.

I have little doubt Drugovitch would be quite a significant upgrade from Stroll... But it seems it will never happen here. I don´t know why he keeps renewing with AM as a test driver..

I think Stroll and Drugovitch are mirror images of each other talent wise.

I dunno why but i always feel like this track and Fernando dont go well together ever since that "one night in 2010". That said P7 is more than i imagined after the practice sessions. The Field is very close. Stroll a few tenths off but today it cost quite a bit.

Top Speed is nearly the slowest so i guess car is setup for s3 and good braking aswell as tire management.

Be difficult to beat Mclaren unless they beat themselves somehow trying to fight Verstappen in an unfortunate incident in t1 at the start

bit funny that the year is gone by now when i can still see him overtake Hamilton at Bahrain and coming home P3  :smoking:

A season of two halves for Aston Martin, based on the end I expect nothing like the beginning next season, Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren much more likely to be 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the WCC, leaving scraps for Alonso and Stroll.

Solid race with both cars on the points. I think it was a great season with 8 podiums nobody expected, we can't deny that the season ends with a bittersweet taste though. Great season from Fernando, a few mistakes but also stellar races.

This car would have ended the season much better if it didn't feel like it was running with an open parachute behind all the time, but overall to be in the pack in the last 3 races with Ferrari/Mercedes/McLaren after the mid season slump it's a good recovery.

Amazing result for Alonso to beat both Ferrari drivers and Norris when they've had better or sometimes much better cars for most of the season.

I expect Aston Martin to be nowhere next year so I will always look back fondly and appreciate this car's competitiveness the first 7-8 races. I am happy that Alonso was able to reach the podium again, even though that elusive win did not come. It was still a fun ride.

Well done to Aston though. Rough patches during the season shouldn't take away from the fact of just how good they got from being nowhere last season.

The big chance was Monaco, but great season for Alonso and the team.

Also, without Red Bull, WDC fight between Hamilton and Alonso would have gone to the last race and we would have likely been sad about the error in Las Vegas and the no scores in Singapore and Mexico.

Pretty sure they would have raced differently if they were fighting for the championship

To be fair so would have Merc. Qatar for example they would have ordered them to not fight.

Great job by the team at the beginning of the season. Deplorable loss of performance in the second half. Its a shame Alonso couldn't bring in 3rd place, but got 4th by a whisker.

Lot of great races and some wonderful moments! Thanks Aston Martin for the car in the beginning! Was happy to see Fernando back on the podium regularly.

Hopefully the team can make a similar step next season and Alonso keeps his form!

Ironically the most memorable performances for me were when the car was less competitive (Zandvoort and Brazil). Both outstanding drives. Glad Stroll salvaged some positives from the last few races. I hope AM can surprise us again next year.

So they must be still clueless on direction .

I hope the Team design their own rear suspension for next year

As a Fernando Alonso fan, I really enjoyed this season thanks to AstonMartin providing a competitive car. I think These ups and downs during 2023 season have strengthened the team in all areas. Here's hoping for the best!

Great season overall! Also as a Fernando fan myself and now an Aston Martin fan, I can't thank the team enough for giving Fernando the equipment to run near the front and show what he still has in the tank, which is quite a lot imho. Relly enjoyed Lance's upturn later in the season as well. I had the privilege to interact with the team a bit, and it seems to me, as I said earlier in the thread, like a true 'team' in every sense of the word. Very proud of every member! It seems like Fernando feels that way as well, and I'm glad that he and the team have found each other! On to 2024 and an even quicker car!
