Finally a NASCAR 2023 thread!
You know what I am talking about. We are in the post-Hail Melon world, the move Ross Chastain pulled at Martinsville to stun not only the Nascar world, but the whole world as the move become the most viral thing Nascar ever did since I can't recall when.
We are embarking on a new journey of playoff delusion and outrage, great stock car racing and more silly season entertaining nonsense. And hopefully, much MUCH safer standards for this new breed of cars.
So with that, here's the Schedule for this year of our Lord, 2023:
And here is some Youtube content to get you in the zone:
Kyle Busch in the RCR #8, Ty Gibbs in the JGR #54, no #18, Custer out - Preece in for the SHR #41, Kurt out - Reddick in for the 23XI #45, Ty out - Gragson in for the Petty GMS #42 were the biggest shakeups of the silly season and that's quite a lot.
Now over to you, what are your hopes, dreams and aspirations for this new season ?
Mine is obviously a season where Truex wins races and is at the final 4 to go for that second Championship
Please man, 2022 Cup sucked yo.
But hey at least I made peace with Joey Logano, so that's great.
Cheers y'all

Hey Ov, what does hail melon mean?
It’s what some called Chastain’s move from Martinsville after the fact.
From an unholy combo of ‘Hail Mary’ and ‘Melon’ because well, he’s the melon guy.

And to that picture, I'll answer with the letter a former Autosport forum member wrote to me years and years ago, when he fixed me a Dylan Kwansiewski t-shirt.
Spoiler. They didn't work as a hex. Worked better to eat them...
And I still have the t-shirt.
EDIT: Holy banana-split, that picture was laaarge. Any nice little BBCode to make it smaller?

It's all so very weird. Not that NASCAR-games have been good for the last 15 years, but the whole MSG-thing is weird.
Especially as they have used S397 to make quite a few bits and pieces for all their announced games, and then ended up releasing it for rFactor 2 instead. IndyCar, BTCC, WEC-tracks. The Stock Cars were just updated in rF2 as well. It's like they actually use rF2 as a test-place like planned, but not doing the rest.

I thought Heat 4 was quite good. Not amazing, but a solid and faithful recreation of the sport, it did the job well. But that was developed by a different team, one that was ditched and has gone on to release (the excellent) SRX and World of Outlaws games. MSG games took over and basically just rereleased NH4 as NH5 but screwed up all the little things they did try to update and made it a buggy mess. Since then the games have been beyond terrible. Ignition is just unplayably awful. The company is just incompetent beyond belief.
Thing is, if you compare it to the mid 00's games, there's a lack of features. It's dissapointing when games are losing features and content as we move along. It should've been the other way around. I mean, you can see the same in the F1 Manager game as well. It lacks so many features that we got 25-30 years ago. I never got into any of the modern NASCAR games due to this.

Was about to say that JP told me he was doing fine and better than fine. That makes me happy
The reason why he bought the t-shirt and sent it, was that at the time Kwansiewski was still racing in K&N West (Or East), and logically they didn't ship merch outside of the US. I asked here on the forum for help, and he jumped on it, figured what it would cost to send it to Norway, bought the shirt and I transferred money to cover the shirt and postage.
The M&M was a fun, welcome surprise

Two big headlines appeared concurently:
Last full year of 'Happy' Harvick.
Gonna enjoy his farewell tour.
And Petty GMS completely rebranded themselves, with JJ driving his reverse digit legacy number:

The unPetty-ing of Petty is weird, "Legacy Motor Club" has zero brand value. If they were at least naming it after a new wealthy owner that'd make sense, but so much of the value of that team is the name and number?
Not to be old but I'll miss Harvick. It feels like we're in the end stages of turning over a generation. And because I don't follow the series closely, and certainly not Nationbusch and Trucks, I have no idea who anyone is anymore.

The first question one would ask is "legacy of what?". Answer Petty family. Response: then why didn't you put Petty in the name?
They probably burned a lot of hours and bourbon and money coming up with that weak name.

Depending on what transpires with Kurt Busch he's the last holdout from the pre gimmick/Chase/playoff era. Based on his performance with the #4 he should probably have a couple more titles but for the present system, which makes a big difference in how he gets viewed historically.

On its own, "legacy" is generally not a term of endearment, so it's even more puzzling why someone would choose that as the name of their team. It's usually used to describe something that is old and hopelessly outdated, but you're stuck with maintaining, or an act of admitting someone to college on the basis of them having a successful alumni as a parent.

Brock Beard has put together an excellent four-part documentary about the non-Dale Earnhardt storylines leading up to and following the 2001 Daytona 500. If you're into NASCAR history, it's a pretty good watch (Brock makes good docs!). Part 1 is here:
