When Will Power was in British F3, I decided he would never quite make it in motor racing. I'm still available to offer the wisdom of my forecasts...
My favourite moment of 2022 was Roberto Moreno entering the Formula Ford Festival. He'd won it in 1980, returned in 2021, and competed again this year. I suspect he doesn't have his sights set on an F1 drive. It's a reminder that racing is fun!
1. Alex Rins wins on Suzuki's farewell to MotoGP. A properly bittersweet moment, but so fitting that the last time that bike turned a wheel in anger it was crossing the line victorious at Valencia. With all those staff leaving, lots of them out-of a job entirely, the riders themselves moving on to the Honda junkheap and the bikes set to be destroyed, a proper "things will never be this good again so enjoy the moment" situation. Understandable tinged with a bit of upset for a lot of those people.
2. Kevin Magnussen setting pole position - on merit, pretty much - in Brazil. A reminder that F1 can still, very occasionally, throw up a proper surprise. No matter that the rest if his weekend didn't go remotely to plan, it was all about that moment.
I concur with Dolph's first two; my third would be Scott McLaughlin's rise in the Series.

1: Josef’s last corner last lap pass on Scotty Mac at Texas.
2: Scotty Mac wins 3 races including the St Pete opener.
3: Ben Bretzman telling me “Whoa Nellie this guy is off the hook good”.

Re #1, the Mid-Ohio (or was it Road America?) BusBros fan outreach reprise of that moment with the two protagonists present was great on so many levels, the spontaneous remark, the evolving recognition, the winning driver's incipient gloating, and the fan's efforts at a diplomatic recovery spoke to many of us trying to balance emotional and rational responses to the fine spectacle that is IndyCar action.
Also J New's "Never go backward hat when wearing a Penske shirt" fan coaching moment was a classic.
Not watched as much motorsport this year as usual - however, I'd say my top three are:
1. MotoGP @ Phillip Island. What. A. Race. I could re-watch the highlights from that about 50 times in a row and still not get bored. Racing at its absolute best - stunning.
2. F1 @ Silverstone. Probably the best F1 race of the year, featuring some of the best racing F1 has seen in a long, long time. Helped that it was live on C4 too - watched it with my dad, and we were cheering and on the edge of our seats for those last laps.
3. Getting to see the new Ferrari 499P Le Mans car, and the continued building excitement about WEC/IMSA for the next few seasons. I cannot wait for Daytona in January, and then Le Mans later in the year. A new golden era of sports car racing is about to begin - enjoy it and treasure it for as long as it lasts.
Honourable mentions - the Goodwood Revival, and in particular, the RAC TT. Seeing pros thrash such valuable cars, and put on such a wonderful spectacle, is always a real treat.
Oh, and who can forget the amazing McMurtry Speirling at the Goodwood FoS earlier in the year? I still laugh when I watch this - it's just comically fast.
Well, I only watched F1 in 2022 and I find it difficult to pinpoint any favourite moments. Feels like almost every race had basically the same result. Only one podium went to anyone outside the top3 teams, despite so many races being held, no wonder it's difficult for me to remember anything particular. I miss the attrition and unpredictability of some of the older seasons.
1. The Pfaff Porsche banging its way to a class win at the Daytona 24.
2. Will Power Zen Mastering his way to a second IndyCar title.
3. CGR's IMSA Cadillac duo ending its DPi era by taking each other out in the closing hour of Petit Le Mans.
1) SVG in anything. If I had to pick a moment, probably the RNZ podium.
2) The Australian GP and the new cars. Genuinely looked forward to the start of the season and the thrill lasted as long as Sainz binning it on lap one.
3) I don't know if I'd call it a moment, but the fact that almost all WRC fans seem to think the current cars are fast but not the right direction for the category. It's a bit bleak at the moment but hopefully someone in Paris is taking notice.

Same here - the season is so long too, that I genuinely can't remember much before the summer break. I guess My main memory is Russell's first win and the Magnussen pole...a pretty epic weekend but it was also recent too.
I guess the Leclerc/Max battle in Bahrain, too.
I can remember more from what happened in 2003 or even fairly boring seasons such as 2004...it's strange. Since the V6T era the years have kind of all moulded into one for me.
Honorably mention: Had a good laugh at the end of Rally Finland when EP and Janne Ferm finished the rally with ski goggles on The onboard was pretty legendary as was their arrival to the podium.
1. watching the DTM Nürburgring live at the Mercedes arena on the first race.....
all by myself as it was so foggy that all the other folks had buggered off already. can't really blame them, it took three hours for the fog to clear. i was lucky to hear the announcement that they still wanted to finish the race ;)
2. nyck de Vries suddenly being called up in Monza and securing enough attention to score an Alpha Tauri seat for next year.
3. Ross Chastain taking a page from Stroker Ace and Days of Thunder with his Wall Ride. Tom Cruise would be proud, Burt Reynolds would have laughed out loud and applauded.
Fantastic thread Dolph and am happy to see you celebrate your main dude's amazing year - Will Power. Certainly a year of years for Penske as a whole, of which I will allude to below.
And if I may, it's too hard to keep it to only 3, so I'll do Top 5 Races, Top 5 Moments.
But before all that, I just wanna share some gold to this insane silly season, from MotoGP to Motocross to Nascar to Indycar to F1 ( team principals also lol ), this year's silly season was the best ever. The insane laughs I had here with you all, specifically during the Palou / Piastri / Alonso moment in July/August was on another level. I still laugh at some posts and memes.
Top 5 Races:
5. IMSA Petit Le Mans
A fully deserved and quality final farewell to the eventually legendary DPi class that brought us so much great memories these past year for Endurance enthusiasts everywhere.
4. WRC Monte Carlo Rally
Rally yes, but a Race as well - one won by the GOAT - Sebastian Loeb, what a masterclass of the ages, together with the teacher co-driver extraordinaire Isabelle Galmiche. Great way to start the year.
3. WEC 6 Hours of Monza
This is the race I've been waiting for in WEC for 5 years now! This specific race, won by Alpine of all teams, was a festival of fun and pure endurance excellence. 6 Hours of relentless racing. WEC is back!
2. MotoGP Philip Island
As others said here, this race was just perfection. Every lap was pure adrenaline. MotoGP at it's peak. Something unforgettable.
1. Pro Moto Pala 2, Race 1
Seeing two riders at their absolute limit, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. What more can you dream of ? This race is so important to me personally and it remains the first race I immediately think of when I see 2022 in my mind's eye. Hall of fame level round.
Top 5 Moments:
5. Tom Ingram, BTCC Champion
As many stated above ( so happy to see it ) it was a pleasure to see hard work and dedication winning. Ingram's journey from Toyota to Hyundai and now ultimate title glory was so engaging to see. A Champion loved by everyone. Congratulations Tom.
4. Valentino Rossi in World GT Challenge
This moment at Imola, felt like World GT really landing on the world's stage, getting the full attention it deserves. One of the best series each and every year, the top echelon of GT3 and the organization that created the category, it keep rising to new levels each and every year. And for someone who adores interdisciplinary moments in Motorsport, this was a dream come true.
3. The Captain's Year
Penske - Indycar and Nascar Champions. I salute the Captain. What a man, what an organization. True Champion.
2. Bastianini winning for Gresini
This was a simple, beautiful, truly moving moment that made me shed some great tears. Bastianini's first GP win on the Gresini Ducati with Nadia Padovani, the late, great Fausto Gresini's partner, in the garage weeping with the team. What a moment. Still pulls at my heart strings.
1. Eli Tomac's Season of all Seasons
Eli Tomac is one of my favorite ever athletes: a man who truly inspires me for many reasons. Inspiration is my main reason for loving Racing so much. This visceral Sport is so full of vitality and nothing comes close to it in my eyes. So seeing Eli just sweeping Supercross and then Pro Moto and then the Motocross of Nations and then the opening World Supercross Race... this season will inspire me my whole life. This alone was more than enough for me this year. Such an honor to witness.
2022 is ending and now it's time to hunt that 2023 Supercross title and make it 3 SX Championships #ET3.
It's been a true pleasure to enjoy all this Racing with you all in 2022. Let's have an amazing and ambitious 2023. See you at Anaheim 1, Monte Carlo and the 24 Hours of Daytona
I have to admit that this was a very unimpressing year for me, as much in F1 as in Indycar. I actually couldn't remember who won the Indy 500, didn't recall any outstanding moment in F1 and struggled to remember who won the Indycar championship.
I'm reading some really great ones here, and increasingly annoyed with myself that I didn't think about it more before posting. Chastain's wall ride, Loeb's Monte Carlo win and Espargaro's long, LONG awaited win are all great calls.
