My bet is Lando wont make the same mistakes next year.  He is an exceptional driver who probably only had a weakness in grasping opportunities, and even then, it's not about choking, it's about risk vs reward, he probably went all in on those times when he could have afforded a little in hand.

But again, I reckon we wont see those same issues next year.

Oscar has Lando's one lap speed for the most part, but heaps to do on race management, lets see how much better he is next year.  If he can follow Lando's early career progression, 2025 will be fireworks!!!

I'm still wary of car regression in 2025 because we've been burned so many times, but agree with your whole post!

So in other words, yes. You expect that anyone can come in here and made snide remarks or jabs or downplay Oscar, he's totally fair game. It's totally, 100% okay that someone dimisses his chief achievement of the year as simply "lucky", but no, Oscar's fans aren't allowed to react, respond or reply in any way to the antagonism, they must just sit there quietly and allow others to say that sort of thing.

Got it. Yup. Question though, who made you king of the thread?

It's a question of proportionality and degree, my friend.

The tenor of these (McLaren team) threads was set back in 2021 when Daniel Ricciardo's performances were disappointing and clearly inferior to those of the younger, less experienced Norris. The Ricciardo surprise catalysed numerous silly, unnecessary spats between Ricciardo's fans and his critics.

The problem was not that his fans liked him, or even that they thought he was doing (or in time would do) a better job than what his critics believed. We all have our favourites for whatever reasons we may and are entitled to have - totally cool. Rather, the problem was that Ricciardo's fans would never give it a rest. With every perceived slight, every implied moment of disrespect, of Ricciardo, invariably the same handful of fans would be triggered into leaping to his defence. It became tedious and degraded the threads. 'Member XYZ is a big Ricciardo fan - we get it!'

With that as the historical background (of which you, having become a member less than a year ago, may be unaware), the current thread is not (in the expressed opinions of other members active on this thread, including me) improved when someone uninvolved in the Ricciardo-Norris spat appears to be repeating that regrettable previous pattern with regard to Norris's latest Australian teammate.

When any form of criticism, direct or implied, of Oscar is posted on this thread, one can envisage one or two members reacting with fury in defence of their hero, the arteries of their foreheads bulging and their faces turning crimson as they bang away at their keyboards.

I daresay there is no McLaren fan on earth who is not delighted that Oscar Piastri drives for the team. The guy is awesome. He put in some very special performances in 2023, and the fact that he was a rookie who did not even race the previous season made his 2023 performances all the more special. He could turn out to be better than Norris, maybe better than any driver ever - who knows? But - as did every other driver in the world, including Norris - he made some mistakes in 2023, and every time that another member alludes to that you do not need predictably to leap to his defence. We know where you stand already! ;)

The literal instigating post of this argument was Oscar's key achievement this year being dismissed as "lucky", but you don't seem to feel the need to scold that person, now do you?

The facts are simple. On the day, when the sprint pole was on the line, and the sprint win, Oscar converted. Norris didn't. And yet according to some, that's apparently just "lucky" for Oscar, no credit to his driving, no credit to his mental strength, just lucky. And heaven for-****ing-bid that comment annoys people, because Oscar is fair game for criticism, but Norris is above it all.

Norris has shown big hulk vibes of cracking when top results are there which even his rookie less talented team mate made the most of but yes you are not allowed to critisise Norris but feel free to call Oscar's results lucky and nothing to do with talented.

What I'm going to say is probably pretty stupid, certainly to the scientific part of my brain, however in my many years of watching F1, it seems to be that if you have a driver pairing as strong as I suspect Lando and Oscar will be by then, that the car will just end up being near the front.  As I said, stupid, but history shows it to be fairly true.

There was of course Alonso/Button at the back of the field, but other than that, it's hard to recall a top 2 driver pairing that has had to put up with a repeatedly poor car.

Maybe I'm being very short sighted about that... I just think by 2025 only Leclerc/Sainz could be considered close, depending of course who Red Bull partner verstappen with.

So I just refuse to believe that if Lando/Oscar are the best pairing, or close to, by that stage that the car won't be there with them....

End of absolute fluff piece!

I find it somewhat disappointing that people consider sprint wins to be actual race wins but then again I'm just an old dinosaur I guess in detesting the watering down of the sport.

I think Lando’s 7 podium finishes this year should have dispelled any ‘Hulk’ vibes! Lol
