Hello

We are struggling to identify this gear box, we think its from a pre war vehicle, it came with a 1905 Unic engine but isn't the correct box for the engine.

Its 3 speed and reverse

What sort of threads are used?

That might give a clue...

Thanks never thought of that!

It was one of the things that helped identify the engine

The photo you have shown us is probably the output side, can we have shot of the input end?

I think the original photo is the input end. Belt driven from a stationary engine.

What you may have there is a variable speed power take-off.

Whatever it is from, the gearbox is mounted direct to a chassis of frame, remote from the power source.

But I could be wrong on all counts.

Some early cars had a transmission brake so we thought that was the purpose of the big cast flywheel?

It has 3 speeds and reverse, it also has what looks like a take off for a speedo, this is why we assumed its for a car?

I'm confused too.

The big flywheel, perhaps a pulley wheel, would make an easy way to start a single cylinder engine.

The remote gear selector looks way past 1914.

What is the pitch of the flat plates which would mount the transmission?
