For interest Lloyds Auction ending next Sunday 29 January.

My pick of the lots would be lots 3604, 3605, 3606 and 3607.

 

Many of the other lots are tributes or replicas.

 

Lot 3605 Geoghegan Mustang

What an iconic car, would be amongst most famous race car in Australia

Driven with incredible talent by Geoghegan. Watching come over the Oran Park dogleg and then power through the dipper was unforgettable.

This car last sold at auction in May 2021 for AUD 645,000 plus Buyers Premium

 

Lot 3606 Jane Monaro

A beautiful car and driven so well by Jane and Harvey. A delight to watch.

This car was at the May 2021 auction but was passed in at AUD 1,000,000 after 72 bids for failing to meet reserve.

One wonders what it will bring this time.

 

Lot 3607 Geoghegan Monaro

So glad it is finally fully restored and without those hideous box arches it had later in life it was forced to run.

This looks so much better.

Saw it at Amaroo in an incredible match race with Moffat's Monza. A fantastic race.

Hopefully it can run again in this format rather than the hideous arches.

 

Lot 3604 Morris Torana XU1

Morris was the underdog against the might of the Holden Dealer Team.

Morris really took it to them in some great races.

A beautiful looking car.

 

Sure, there are other cars in the auction' but these would be my pick to take home, if only my numbers come up on Saturday night.

I don't know if the 'tribute' cars are from either collection, by the way. The Police cars are Neil's as well.

I'd have said 'no'. A tribute might just have the appearance; a replica should have the same mechanical specification.

Neither the Jane Monaro nor the Geoghegan Mustang are currently owned by Des Wall.

 

As noted above the Mustang was sold by Wall at the May 2021 auction.

 

The Monaro was passed in at that auction but was sold shortly afterwards.

David sold the Geoghan Mustang and the Jane Monaro a few years ago.  I dont think any of these cars in this sale came from him.

Having looked through this 'catalogue' you would have to have a very good look at these cars. I doubt most are remotely in the condition they were in period. Most have been well stripped and pillaged. 

And a couple are dead!! The Grinstead Torana  was running hillclimbs and has no engine. The imitation Cobra also.

The dark blue XC started life as an XB, possibly XA. It raced as an XB in 76 or 77.

The 'Truckie Parsons ' white car is the one he was killed in.

The Moffat XD has no front shocks!

Well, caveat emptor always applies.

I mentioned the blue XC above - it was the Jim Richards Melfords XB, then leased first to John Goss, then Dick Johnson, who eventually bought it. 

Truckie Parsons is alive and well, as far as I know. The yellow Commodore is not the original Gear Box car, it's been painted as it though. The original car was destroyed at Phillip Island with Gary Quartly driving. 

And my apologies, I had no idea that the Wall collection had already been sold.

I am frustrated because I cannot find the Auction results to further this thread.

 

I emailed Lloyds yesterday asking where I might find the results, and to date have NOT had the courtesy of a response.

 

Very disappointing. Maybe the auction did not go very well.

From what I gather via SpeedCafe a lot of the cars were not sold.

The ZB did sell. 

I suggest with interest rates there is less money about for toys.

And yes I tried to research the prices made as well.

I am NOT a fan of online auctions,, I once had one that I was interested in last year was supposed to finish at 6pm,,at 6 I was the under bidder. it was still going 3 1/2 hours later and made a LOT more money. . Which to me is criminal. Had other dealers tell me similar stories as well. I cannot remember which one,, one of the main ones however.

Plus ofcourse sellers and their mates bidding things up and then getting stuck with the things. I have seen that happen at general auctions too often,, one auction I went to very regularly had the wall as chief bidder!!

I had a look at the 'live streamed' LLoyds auction.

 

Not great results.

 

Of the 19 cars that interested me only 10 sold,.

The Morris XU1 at $280k,  the Geoghegan Monaro $355k (bargain??),  two Truckie Parsons Commodores at $136 and $146k  (good buying).    The Grinter hillclimb A9X (ex Cullen Hatch) minus engine went for $315k.     Two road sales of value were an engineered XU1 V8 for $68k and an RS Cosworth for $109k

 

Passed in or "we still have two on line/phone bidders"    Jane Monaro $400k    Geoghegan Stang $400k   Road Reg-d A9X race shell $500k   Byrt XC Falcon $280k   Obrien XC Falcon $300k    Brock Targa XU1 $109   Moffat XD $245k and the replica Moff Mustang $200k,

So, no prices shown which was the very point of my request.
So much for their claim to being Australia's Greatest auction House.
I wouldn't deal with them on principle.

It does seem a strange business model. Why wouldn't you wish to promote your sales successes? A mate of mine sold a unique and desirable car through them last year on their second attempt and was underwhelmed by their overall service.

It's also bemusing that they ran one big auction for these cars in a specialised market during a contracting economy. I guess the seller's wishes drove that strategy.

So, in deep frustration I emailed Lloyds back to ask what were "auction results" if they didn't include selling prices?

 

The ridiculous response I got was:

 

"THE PRICES ARE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL FOR THE BUYER'S PRIVACY"

 

What a load of the proverbial...

 

I have NEVER heard of that in any other field of auctioning, whether houses, cars jewelry etc

 

Surely prices are an indication of how successful the auction house's selling efforts were.
