Lets see if Joe is right for once. If you throw enough darts at the board eventually you'll hit the bullseye

""Informed sources suggest that there is a provision in Ricciardo’s contract for him to switch into Red Bull Racing after the early races next year if Sergio Perez does not up his game," Saward wrote on his blog.

“I hear that if that happens Daniel’s salary will triple and Liam Lawson will come in to replace him.”"

Isn't that what RBR always allowes themselves to do anyway? How did Verstappen get his seat at RBR?

Must be that the drivers are contracted to Red Bull themselves. Which is what allows them to switch drivers so easily mid-season.

As for the huge increase in pay if he gets switched back - that's probably the least likely scenario. Maybe a big increase in bonus payments for podiums and wins.

Dropping Sergio will be hideously expensive though unless he has early release clauses related to performance.

I appreaciate Saward's longevity and stuff, but I can't even remember the last time his speculations came to fruition. I think this one is backed by facts, but greatly exaggerated and turned into a chain of speculation to make a long piece.

1) I highly doubt that RBR committed contractually to put Ricciardo, and only possibly Ricciardo in the seat, in the event Checo is dropped. I doubt he was in any position to extract that and unless the RBR lawyers are incompetent.

2) I'm sure the potential to triple his earnings in the case of a Red Bull switch is there... but automatic 5m to 15m? Just like that? I don't know, Rick. Most likely just that the bonuses there are higher... as one would expect.

3) Yes, I'm sure Checo has performance provisions that they could activate to drop him without penalty. It's unlikely that it's easy to hit or they would have dropped him already. And if they could and they didn't... what would be materially different to exercise them the second time around? Maybe McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes do a big leap, sure, but hardly newsworthy to take that and speculate all the way to a front page story.

Most likely explanation is that writing clickbait on Pérez is great for business, it's the off season, and there are bills to pay.

Not a big fan of the name but tbh don't care as long as the car is fast! :D

Also more information on closer ties to Red Bull including using the front end suspension now as well.

The material difference is that Checo had an amazing start to 2023 and would have exceeded any reasonable performance thresholds long before his season unravelled. Those first five races and the inconsistency of the chasing pack nailed him on for 2nd place.

If his 2024 starts how 2023 ended, he'll be in serious trouble. And we don't need Joe to pull that out of his backside, we know how Red Bull work.

With AT taking on more parts from RB, it would be interesting to know if, and how many engineers have moved from RB to AT. Would also be interesting to know what IP an engineer could unoficially  take with them. Usually an engineer going to another team would have to sit out on gardening leave and would have all sorts of non-disclosures in their employment contract, but it would be easy for RB to have a very loose employment contract for an engineer destined for AT.

Would it be one way to get around restrictions on officially "sharing" restricted IP a sister team?

I'm sure that would work providing they can show evidence of drawing up all their own designs from scratch.

However I cant see RB allowing their aero department to spend a year developing the AT when theres MUCH more at stake on the line for RB themselves.

A quiet jar down at the Dog & Bottle would also do the trick. ;-)

Gardening leaves (full paid) can be imposed (in contract) but can be waived.
