---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RACING IS BACK IN SOUTH AFRICA AFTER 30 YEARS!
This is going to be the first World Championship Motorsport race in South Africa since F1's visit to Kyalami, back in 1993.
This is a great achievement for Formula E, and a day to remember for South Africa as well!
Nowdays, we're in the streets of the capital!
The inaugural Cape Town E-Prix is Formula E's first sub-Saharan African event, with the spectacular Table Mountain providing the backdrop for the second of three consecutive events at new venues to the championship, following an action-packed debut in Hyderabad, India, two weeks ago.
An incredible scenery, stunning backdrop and sold-out grandstands for what will be the final event of a three days long E-Festival in Cape Town.
Words can't describe how beautiful the location is, so let the images speak!
THE MOST INSANE TRACK OF THE CALENDAR?
We've often said this in the past with other Formula E tracks, but this could be it for good!
It's very fast, tight, an up & down rollercoaster between walls at 270 km/h, in the streets of Cape Town.
The Mother City's Green Point district provides the location for the high-speed 2.927km circuit, looking out on Robben Island and in the shadow of Table Mountain - snaking around the DHL Stadium and skirting the coastline.
Bumpy braking zones, a tight chicane at Turns 4, 5 and 6 with a pacy, eye-of-the-needle section midway around the lap - all set to throw up a real challenge for the 22 world class drivers.
Formula E gen 3 cars will be able to stretch their legs in the fast sections, but it's all going to be on the edge, as the track is set to be pretty tight all-around.
The drivers will have to throw the cars into unusual (for FE) high speed kinks & the fast, up & down bends, with zero room for mistakes.
From turn 10 to 1 is a mad, fast dash, with no braking, just lifting in the bends, throwing the car into the corners.
Making Macau look like a kindergarten.
This will be a real street circuit challenge!
A 3 days long e-Festival will be hosted in Cape Town. 25K tickets sold out for the main grandstands and plenty more people will gather in the parks & the fields around the track.
Track building progress: it will be all completed by thursday.
Kevin Van Der Linde, local idol racing for ABT Cupra, who trained in the simulator ahead of the race, predicts it to be"one of the scariest experiences in a racecar ever".
This could split the man from the boys.
Jump onboard with Oliver Rowland for a simulator lap around the course.
WHO CAN STOP PASCAL WEHRLEIN?
Pascal Wherlein has a target on his back.
To quote Toto Wolff, the german star of Porsche is clearly the man to beat this season: thanks to an early advantage of the Porsche powertrains, Wehrlein scored BIG in all the races so far: 2nd in Mexico, 2 victories in Riyadh & 4th place in India.
4th place in India was expecially impressive, given the huge crash of Free Practice 1 that forced the team to miss all the session and Wehrlein to spend some hours in hospital.
But Wehrlein kept his head cool: stayed away from troubles in the race and cameback from 12th on the grid, finishing 4th.
We've rarely seen such an impressive early pace in a Formula E season, but will this trend continue?
Jaguar looked very impressive in India, until....well, until Sam Bird smashed teammate Evans out of the race.
It was a disaster for the british based team, who was looking to get the first podium of the season, if not better!
Championship contender Jake Dennis (Andretti-Porsche) was also looking good for another podium, but was crashed out by Rene Rast's mclaren, and forced to pit to repair rear wing.
Amidt all the Chaos, it was Jean Eric Vergne who carried his DS Penske towards the first victory, marginally ahead of Nick Cassidy's Envision.
Two teams that are looking stronger & stronger: will they challenge Porsche in Cape Town too?
WHERE TO WATCH THE CAPE TOWN RACE?
