Any UK enthusiasts here of a certain age will surely recall Charles Bridges and his Red Rose Racing team of the mid to late 1960s.  Just received from his great driver, Brian Redman:

"Charles Bridges (96) recently passed away.  Without his help with the Lightweight E-Type, 4WPD, in 1965 and the Lola T70 Mk II in 1966, followed by David - the middle brother with whom I turned pro in '67 for '...30 quid a week, guaranteed for a year, with a car and a mechanic' (I wouldn't have had my racing career).  'Also John, who I did some races for and who was a Director of Chevron Cars Ltd, and who bought Red Rose Motors from Charles...' ".

I have fond memories of sitting in the shade of the big infield tree down near Esso Bend at a sun-soaked Oulton Park, lap charting Brian's progress in the red Lola and a marshal saying to me "What do you think of our Brian then - 'e's our next World Champion, I say he's our next World Champion!  You mark my words!"... thanks very largely to the flying start which Charles Bridges gave him.

As a  youngster I watched the Red Rose cars at so many meetings. I too, as did your marshal, could see Brian Redman was indeed a cut above so many drivers. But evidence of that was only possible due to the well prepared cars he was driving. And that was down to Charles Bridges.
