Awesome.

Merc boys do not agree:

GR: When the Sprint race was introduced in the beginning I wasn't a fan. After doing nine of them, I've become more in favour. I don't think a one-lap qualifying would ever go ahead and from the things I've heard that wouldn't be on the cards. I trust in what Stefano and F1 are doing. It's difficult to see, in the beginning, the prospects, but we've got to keep on evolving. I do think, globally, qualifying and the Grand Prix work very well, but I'm open to change, review, and going again but as I said, I trust them and I’ll back them whatever they believe is right.

I think having the action on the Friday. Arriving to the track, having action every single day, also for fans in the crowd, I think just watching cars circulating in practice, I don't think it's as exciting as when you have a qualifying session like this or a Sprint race. So I think it's exciting for us, for the teams, and for the fans.

LH: I do think we constantly need to be evolving and assessing what we're doing. And I think the changes with the Sprint races has been positive in some places. Baku, we couldn't do a one-lap qualifying because these tyres don't work after one lap, and especially if we've got no blankets, then we'll be doing more laps. So I don't know. But I'm open to changes, to continue to make it more inclusive and more engaging for the fans. I quite like the Friday of a Sprint weekend so far. I'd love to have more qualifying because that's always super fun. And I just think it should… different. Perhaps we can just apply just slightly small changes to different races, specific for those places where if a race where you can't overtake like Monaco, what else can we do there to make it more exciting.

Week after perez challenged max which clearly verstappens camp didn't like he suffers from horrendous drivability issues. Mmmmmmm

So the question is who nobbled the car. Was it the new mechanic Ric Dancardio? O was it the engineer Jason Vonsteppon?

Nice little video showing the building of the track in Melbourne. Hard to picture it as not an F1 track… so very interesting seeing the track build taking place.

A lot of work for 3 days of fun!

Ted totally being a Hamilton fanboy atm by saying Masi shouldn't be in the paddock and why is he there, he's rather outraged about it.....

Edit: I should clarify that this is a replay of yesterday's notebook, I only just turned the TV on and thought it was this morning, sorry....

Is this a surprise to anyone? He is a big Hamilton fan and has never hidden that.

True, but he needs to let it go on a professional level.  If Masi has been invited by FIA, then Ted doesn't get to overrule that, no matter how angry he is.  His tone about it all was just OTT for a professional.

I agree. It was unpleasant to watch that part of the notebook. Very unprofessional.

Hehe, I think it could be a great segment... but it's not quite there... Maybe someone else should have a crack at it... give it to Alex Brundle!

LOL. When is someone going to question why Joe Saward continues to be present in the Paddock race in and race out?

So ...

Thursday: 65K people

Friday: 123K+

Saturday: 129K+

Sunday:  ?

Around 320K so far, with well over 250K just on Friday and Saturday is phenomenal, esp in the cold & wettish weather.

I notice the Oz GP organizers are using actual counts and aren't putting out nice, round-numbered 'estimates' either, the way some tracks do. :cough:COTA:cough

Pay attention, other circuits. The Australian GP is showing you the way ...

After George Russell and Lewis Hamilton grabbed second and third on the grid for the Australian Grand Prix, both drivers said the result was far beyond expectations after Mercedes' difficult start to the season.

But Alonso, who has qualified fourth in Melbourne, sees things very differently and believes that Mercedes has a much better package in the W14 than it has been making out.

Asked whether he was surprised to see Mercedes beat him in taking the fight to poleman Max Verstappen, the Spaniard said: "No, in Jeddah I think they were within one tenth of the pace on Sunday to us and here they were P2 yesterday with Lewis in FP1.

I never believed they were as slow as they've been in the first two races. On smooth tracks, they'll probably go like hell, like they are in Melbourne. It's the less pristine circuits that will challenge them the most, imho.

It's not just that I dont think that Ricciardo may not be good enough, but a top team is a lot less willing to let a driver into the car that didnt drove a year, and had his last decent season 4 years ago.

Four years ago? Tell me you're not including 2020 in that.

Interesting comments from Christian about Zak, Dan and his time at McLaren. Wonder what bad habits he's referring to and what they have seen from him in the Red Bull simulator.

It's probably related to the way he had to adapt to the Mclaren as we know it's not a front runner. Bound to handle so different to the red Bull

Masi works for V8 Supercars now - which is a support category this weekend. He's not there by invite or to antagonise Ted. He's just doing his job.

That is a nice change from him.

Maybe, maybe not. Tyre warm up and temp window has been talk of yesterday’s session. Some teams, like Mercedes and Williams seemed to nail the window, while others such as Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren not so much, while the rest fell somewhere in the middle. Albon in the Williams qualified just one position and two and a half tenths behind Leclerc’s Ferrari.

So while it could be that this track has the type of corners that play into Mercedes’ aero efficiency window, the tyre sensitivity this weekend is just too much of a variable to give any sort of accuracy on form. So in cases such as this weekend when tyre window can result in + or - up to 0.5 seconds in lap time, better to wait for weekends that could give a better picture.

I've had to turn the central heating down a bit after a large bagel & cheese. Not quite the same where I am but the excitement still got me feeling warm
