This is an ad for the "Electronic Formula 1" toy that the Japanese Tomy company introduced in 1978. The ad was printed in a German "Fix und Foxi" comic magazine from 1979.

Can any of you please identify the series, year, track, and maybe some of the drivers?

The sponsoring on the #14 car is definitively "Newsweek", and on the brown car it seems to be "allegrini".

I think this is European F2 championship in 1978

Newsweek sponsored car is a Chevron B42 driven by Keke Rosberg

Alegrini sponsored car is a March 782 driven by Piercarlo Ghinzani

As for circuit and other car i have no idea !

Wow, I had hours (well, minutes) of fun with this game as a kid. I seem to recall the track had 3 lanes that seemed to consist of vertical strips of film that would run at differing speeds.

@Santacruz, thanks a lot!

To help identifying the track, I think the pit lane's triple guardrail looks quite distinctive.

I went through the list of the 1978 F2 events and checked where Keke Roberg took part in the race. This narrows the list down to these tracks:

Thruxton
Hockenheim
Nürburgring
Mugello
Vallelunga
Donington
Nogaro
Mendoza, Argentina (Temporada)
Buenos Aires, Argentina (Temporada)

We can rule out Donington (pit wall would be on the other side) and Thruxton where the pit guardrail looked different at that time.

Incidentally, a friend of mine had this, but by the time I played it in 1983 this was already outdated. My friend soon got an Atari 800 XL which we found far more interesting...

If that barrier is on the pitlane side of the track, then I think you can rule out Nogaro too.

I don't think so, Rosberg had a DNS at Pau, and the edge of the pit lane guardrail is missing this round edge at its end.

I think I've checked all tracks now on YT and with Google image search and I can rule out almost all of them. I'm still not sure with Mugello, that could be a candidate. Here's a video from 1977, unfortunately it shows that particular spot only from behind:

That looks like it could be Hockenheim to me.

Exactly, that's it! Here is a photo from 1977 taken from exactly the same position:

I don't want to start a new topic for this, but while we are at it, here is a bonus question with similar cars from the same era. Although this will probably be tough...

Unimex-Mark9-Cassette904.jpg

This is cassette 904 for the "Unimex Mark IX" (also known as Sanwa 9015) video game console from 1978.

Does any of you know what type of cars this artwork has possibly been modeled after?

Probably Formula 2 as well, 1976 or 1977. The third car looks different, similar to a Lotus 77 F1 car from 1976.

I don't know how these artists usually work, but I assume that they use a photo as a template. But it could of course be the result of the artist's fantasy.

I would suggest a March 762

Now I challenge you to find the original version of the F2 photo!

According to the car #s, this is the early season round (the Jim Clark memorial race) rather than the '78 season end-er, also at Hockenheim...
