I was very sorry to read today of Jon Fletcher's passing earlier this month, aged 84.
He raced in many formulae from the mid '60s to the '90s, but I remember him from his time in UK Modsports in the later 1970's with his ex-Chequered Flag Lotus Elan. I was spannering for Adrian Yates-Smith, and when we changed his 911 to a 'flat front' we came up with the idea of using aluminium 'fillets' down each side of the bonnet to preserve the required "standard profile from the side view above the wheels centres" for Modsports. A lot of people were quite unhappy with this, but he was one of the first to wander over and congratulate us on "beating the scrutes", and have a laugh about it.
A true Gentleman and enthusiast.
To his wife Carole and all his family and friends, deepest condolences.
