With less than an hour to go, no race day thread. Risil will hopefully add a few jokes, but I figured we'd better get something on here or else risk running the thread after the pack once the lights had gone out, vainly trying to catch up the action.

The starting grid looks like this, with Sargeant and Leclerc starting from the pitlane:

A look at what tyres the drivers have left ahead of the #SpanishGP #Fit4F1 #F1

Isn't there always no overtaking here?

Usually, but they've tweaked the circuit and the support races did seem to see more overtakes? The f2 race on Saturday was also heavily affected by rain. Also, they've added an escape road you have to go down if you go off track at the start and from the support races, it looks pretty advantageous. You get dinged for track limits if you take the mick too much, but still, seems a recipe for drama.

When is this happening?

2PM UK time, so about 40 minutes time

Will it rain?

Maaaaaaaaaybe!

It's going to rain, almost 100% sure of it. Storm approaching from the north east. Question is, for how long

No time to lose! The 2023 Catalan Spanish Grand Prix of Barcelona is starting in forty-five minutes. On Saturday Max Verstappen did his usual excellent and pitiless performance, securing pole position while his rivals (and sometime teammate -- remember that? -- Pierre Gasly) committed various acts of self-sabotage and find themselves marooned (Leclerc's car is scarlet, not maroon) in the midfield.

Cui bono? Carlos Sainz starts on the front row in front of his home crowd, Lewis sneaks into fourth despite colliding with this teammate, Lando Norris starts alongside him (?!?) and Lance Stroll has a decent opportunity to outrace and defeat that mischievous 42-year-old imp Fernando Alonso for the first time this year.

Other stories? Hulkenberg starts in the top 10, Perez, Russell and Leclerc must fight their way through / each other, De Vries looks like a match for Tsunoda for once, and the old enormous double-right hander has been restored after the chicane was removed over the winter. Oh and it's a bit overcast. Will it rain? Yeah of course it will. No doubt. For sure.

It looks pretty certain that a decent amount of rain will hit around the race start time.

I guess it depends which way it's moving. If south then this will be fun!

On a train so not sure how to watch it. The WiFi has blocked sky go. Might need to log off for the rest of the day to avoid the result :/ (or maybe I'll bite the bullet and do 5live).

Didn't Schumacher do that once? I seem to remember him saying he escaped a gravel trap having known exactly where the harder bits were due to a practice off. He never missed a trick.

It is moving south west to the circuit direction

The radar animation I saw showed the rain heading literally directly towards the circuit.

If the high intensity stuff persists and doesn't fizzle out before it reaches the circuit, we could be in for a red flag special again.

I was toying with the idea of putting £20 on Norris to get a podium this year, and decided it would be a waste of money. If it rains, that may have been a mistake 😂

The rain is slightly dodging the circuit to the south (or dissipating)

It’s nice when Brundle interviews VIPs with at least some knowledge of F1.

I think it also helps if he knows who they are before speaking to them.

Pit stop time loss last year was about 22.5 seconds on average, ranging from 21.5 to 24.0 seconds.
I reckon the time loss will be at least half a second greater this year with the chicane removed and T14 speeds being much higher than the pit entry speeds.

I tried my paid Vpn, but I think both the company and sky block that.

Poor Martin having trouble finding any F1 people on the grid. Says a lot about modern F1.  :rotfl:  :rotfl:

McLaren look fairly relaxed at the back of Norris’ car- hopefully nothing to worry about.
