Hoo-boy! The closest thing Indycar has left to a double-points weekend begins on Saturday and continues into Sunday with one 250-mile race at Iowa’s Iowa Speedway, and then another 250-mile race at the same venue the following day. It’s the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend! The Race Weekend takes place at the now-familiar 7/8-mile track located in a big field within 100 miles of Des Moines, Iowa. The track is tight but somehow has an average speed of 180mph when tyres are fresh and fuel is light. The banking normally allows for some different lines so passing is difficult but possible. Weather’s forecast to be hot, but not the 99-degree heat they’re getting later this week/everyone else outside the UK seems to be getting these days, so I suppose you could call that a positive.
Oh and the defending race winner, talented Dane and Kanuck Konqueror Christian Lundgaard, is in home Hy-Vee colours (green, white, red???) this weekend, so fans of regional supermarkets and their exciting branding choices will have one extra thing to celebrate. Hopefully he’ll get another good result, but it’s Rahal so who knows, really? Maybe Jack Harvey will be on pole.
Last year’s pair of races saw some exotic artefacts of bygone ages such as 1) Alex Palou not really doing much, 2) Pato O’Ward winning, 3) Rinus Veekay and Jimmie Johnson scoring top-five finishes and 4) Romain Grosjean scoring two race finishes. Time moves on. Palou is a mere… 117 points ahead of his nearest challenger so we’d need something like three consecutive non-finishes in two races to bring the predictably second- and third-placed Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden into the mix. It could happen! There’s still Nashville to go!
Anyway, here’s the schedule. It’s in Iowa time so add on 6 hours for UK and 7 hours for Western Europe. On Saturday they’re qualifying at 8 in the morning like it’s 1990 and they’re Coloni and Osella. You’ve been warned! Racing is at a more civilized dinnertime slot, which means you can get all your complaints/ecstasies about Daniel Ricciardo’s 15th-place finish the Hungarian Grand Prix well out of the way before it’s time to Indycar.

Good on ya Risil. Had it been a road course I'd have been inclined to spout nonsense. But this?No time to explain, practice is on. Topic to follow!

Thanks for creating a topic Risil!
After Practice 1, it appears that Team Penske could maybe, possibly be a factor in the race. Not sarcasm.

I can't help but wonder what will happen if Grosjean crashes on Saturday. I see a real possibility that it would be the last race of the season for him, or for his crew.

That sounds slightly unlikely that it was just 0.6 mph difference between the two laps. But idk!

Can a top team please give Malukas a seat? He's just so nice!

I think they were speculating that would having a contract in the pocket make you more chill, rather than stating he did have one
