We have informed people already on Facebook and on Twitter. It is with great sadness to announce that Pete Austin, photographer and Deputy Editor of Auto Tradition/Racing Spirit died in hospital in Coventry during the evening of Wednesday 28 June 2023.

He had been ill for a long time and we at Auto Tradition would like to thank the nurses and staff at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for the care and comfort he had in the last few days of his life. Pete was a British Racing Motors enthusiast and had a credit at the team's exhibition at the Silverstone Museum. He took super pictures of local/regional history and wildlife along with motorsport photography.

I first met Pete at Rockingham Motor Speedway in June 2007. We hit it off straight away and I learned a lot from him about photography and writing. Many will deeply miss him and I certainly will.

Rest well Pete. Thank you.

I first met Pete Austin by chance at last year's Silverstone Classic on the Friday. We were both waiting outside the Wing paddock for a shuttle bus to take us back the the press car park. Pete, who I found out was a big BRM fan, kindly gave me a copy of his  Auto Tradition  'Graham Hill & BRM World Champions 1962, magazine, he wrote.. Later that evening I spoke to him at the Silverstone Museum for the ticket only BRM talk held (6.00pm-8.00pm).

This year we spoke in the small press room at Race Retro , at end February, and the last time I spent sometime with him was at Prescott Historique, held Saturday 27th May.

Found him to be both friendly, very knowledgeable (especially on BRM history) and an excellent motor racing photographer.
