LUCIW, RALPH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Luciw on July 20, 2023, at the age of 86 years. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on May 31, 1937, Ralph moved to Toronto in his late teens. Although he always had an interest in automobiles, it was in Toronto where his passion for motor racing grew. Over the years, Ralph raced Porsches and Formula "Vs," but perhaps he was most proud of his development of the Honda Michelin Racing Series, which took place across Canada. Over the years, Ralph continued his support of Canadian motor racing through his involvement as a member of the board with the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame and was himself inducted in 2014. Ralph also served as the public relations officer for several automobile companies in Canada. He was known for his good working relations with the media and colleagues due to his professionalism, honesty and expertise. He also worked with the media relations desk at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, when it was known as Mosport International Raceway, promoting many series such as Can-Am, Formula 1, Formula Ford and Rothman’s Porsche.

In 1987, the Canadian Automobile Sport Club honoured Luciw with the John Reid trophy for his outstanding contribution to motorsport. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If you wish to join and share memories of Ralph with friends over a beverage and talk cars, please send your contact information to ralph.luciw@icloud .com. Once details are finalized, information will be sent to you.

My brother, who edits the VARAC newsletter, remembers him well from his days in the Honda Series, and agrees that it's a sad loss for the Canadian motorsport fraternity.
