Yep, found in a closet  or storeroom at GMI, General Motors Institute (now Kettering University). The student who found  it was allowed to take it home. This was before the GM Heritage Collection.

I have heard about this engine program.

I suspect dropped because of the lack of real power made and that Repco built the Repco Holden engine based on the 308 Holden engine. Used in F5000, Sports cars, Sports Sedans and one I know with a 4bbl was used in a HT Monaro speedway sedan. In about 1970.

IF you wish to see some intersting,,, cheaty Holden V8s see the 'Perkins Engineering' You tube channel where Larry had Holden make heads for V8 Supercar engines with the ports lifted a good deal. Production heads??? Never. Coupled with Larrys slide injection they made a good deal more power than any other Holden. The reason he stuck with the Holdens when everyone else had gone to a Chev engine.

I have also seen some very cheaty VW Golf F2 heads made by VW a bit the same. They made more power than any real production head.
