Hello boys

So this is my first post, and I would like to make a request (it´s a bit impolite, isn't it, but want can I do??? kkkkk)

Anyway, I'm a writer (by hobby) of racing in Latin America between the 60's and 70's - I already wrote some texts about F2 and F3 races in the region, that you can find around - If u can´t, I can post a link for it, if u are interested.

My next project is to do a 'combo' text, about Formula Junior races in Central America in the early 60's. But I'm having trouble finding the entry lists and complementary info for some of them. My problem is that these FJ races were not well covered, as they were only support events.

So, does anyone know of any reliable sources to find them? I need something about the Havana/Liberdad GP (1960) and the Puerto Rico GP (1962).

P.S.1: I already know about The Fastlane website, so, don´t me recommend that.
P.S.2: The sources need to be found on the internet, and FREE. I don´t wanna spend 100US$ in a book or old magazine that I'm only gonna use once, since my intention is always to do this for free (for me and any reader), and not putting knowledge behind a paywall.

Thxs in advance

The University of Florida has the Cuban paper Diario de la Marina: https://ufdc.ufl.edu...5615/allvolumes

Any missing issues might be at the Digital Library of the Caribbean: https://www.dloc.com...=diario =marina

Only one I know of for Puerto Rico: https://gpa.eastview.com/crl/elmundo

Thxs boys

I already got something from Revs a while ago. Too bad that many of the photos don't have useful information (caption) and I had to hunt the info one by one on the internet - so it was smt useful/useless at the same time (and as incredible as it sounds, I was able to identify a good part of the cars/drivers, by cross checking material from different sources).

About the newspapers, thank you for the one of Cuba. I was looking for something from the island for a long time, but it seems that many newspapers of the time were destroyed due to the Revolution.

In the case of Puerto Rico, I was already aware of the El Mundo newspaper. The problem is, that it only talks about the sportscar and single-brand races they've had on the island - and almost nothing about the FJ race.

After a few months of work and research, I can finally show you guys the result:

https://www.forix.co...an-juniors.html

Due to the help of people on this forum/topic with my text, I left a special thank you in the acknowledgments section. As always, I like to do justice to the people who help me, always aiming for knowledge to be given free of charge to those who want to know it.

Keep in mind that this is a text under constant construction. I consider that the parts about the Bahamas and Puerto Rico closed - but for Cuba, I still want to look after for some other details, with my main objective being to identify all the pilots present in the panoramic photo of the start, which is present in the text.

The image of Duncan Forlong has a caption that mentions El Salvador in May 1960. The race, the 4th Circuito Cerrado de Santa Ana, actually took place on April 1960. The man behind the event, wealthy local businessman Carlos Panama, had invited three Florida racers for an all-expense paid trip to El Salvador. He hoped they would provide local driver Miranda Lupone and his Jaguar D-type [the previous year's winner] some competition. The drivers were David Lane [Porsche RSK], Chuck Cassel [RSK] and Duncan Forlong [Gemini FJ]. Lane won the feature. The proceeds of the race went to charity, in this case a new ambulance for the Santa Ana hospital.

Thxs for the additional info.

I will try to fix this soon in my text. I admit, I can't know everything, especially since it's such an obscure subject. I based the info on some clippings from the time regarding this specific race, as well as a video I found a while ago about the Santa Ana race.

This one, to be precise:

There you can see some Mercedes and Healeys aswell.

The film mentions May 1960 and that information may be more reliable than the April 1960 information that my source provided. That source was David Lane's ex-wife Benita in 2011. She had some images and said the plane that was provided by Carlos to transport them and the three cars was an old cargo plane. Lots of adventures on that trip, but apart from the fact that David Lane won the feature, she remembered very little.

If you're really interested, I can look again for where the parts are. I just warn you that the information is very chopped up, which in reality only helped me with certain details of the races. If you want to do your own research, look at the volumes between the end of 1959 and (if I'm not mistaken) April 1960.

Just for reference, I'm posting a link below with some screenshots and newspaper archives about the FJ race in Cuba (It's not all, but at least it can give you an idea about the subject).

UPDATE TO THE TEXT!!!!

As I warned, this was a text under construction. After some research, I found information about the first official Formula Junior race in the Caribbean, which took place in March 1959, in Venezuela. This is also (much probably) the first FJ race in the entire Americas - since the first sanctionated FJ/FL races in the USA only began to happen in mid '59.

The only records left of the race were saved in the private archives of Venezuelan collectors, who I managed to contact a while ago. I hope that the photos and images somehow add a new chapter to the chronology of the Formula Junior existence in the Americas.
