Not only more expensive, GT3 has also grown in complexity and are more prototype-ish on which iteration.

SRO has created the new GT2 series because of price for customers but also because of how GT3 became so dependent on aerodynamics and harder to drive.

Embarassing:

According to Autosport's sister website Motorsport-Total.com, several teams have been found leaving the garage doors wide open and placing tyres in a way to take advantage of direct sunlight.
Teams also appear to have used tyre tents to heat up the Pirelli rubber. Some outfits use a black tarpaulin for this purpose, which can store more heat in direct sunlight than a white-coloured tent.

Another clever trick involves teams placing tyres early on the grid trolley, which happens to be positioned in the sun outside the pit.
These incidents were recorded most recently at the Lausitzring and the Sachsenring rounds and appear to be in contravention of the rules. Article 25.1 of the DTM regulations for the 2023 season states that "any device or measure to increase the tyre temperature above the ambient temperature is inadmissible".
For this reason, the DTM issued a clarification to the rules on Saturday evening of the Sachsenring weekend, preventing teams from using sun rays to heat up tyres.
"Exposing the complete wheels to sunlight is considered a measure to increase the tyre temperature above the ambient temperature,” it said.
“The only exception is the duration of the stay of tyres on trolleys on the grid. The teams are therefore obliged to make every effort to protect the wheels from sunlight.”

It's one thing to ban tire warmers, and it's something else entirely to go on a witch hunt to find teams who are not protecting their tires from sun light... :rotfl:

I guess not every pitlane or paddock or start-grid is going to have uniform sunlight. One part might be behind the shade of a grandstand whilst another other might be unobstructed, leaving some teams in a more advantageous position than others through no fault of their own.

If you don't want that kind of random variation negatively affecting the sporting outcomes you probably do need some kind of measures to control it.

I guess before the ban, the tyre-warmers themselves were providing some level of uniformity and fairness in that regard.

So I think it's fair in principle, even if the rule dealing with it sounds somewhat comedic.

when you put it this way, it makes sense.

Only the DTM would outlaw the sun.

^ All future rounds should be at the Nordschleife in the rain. Identity crisis solved. I'd turn up to watch.

I'd be sad if we didn't have the traditional crashfest weekend at the Norisring.  It's a vital part of the DTM's character to go full NASCAR at least once a year.

DTM was never the same after 1995-1996.

In my memory the 90's were the best years. I just looked at the drivers from 1996 and was amazed. All time favorites like Bernd Schneider, Kurt Thiim, Ellen Lohr, Bernd Mayländer, Manuel Reuter, Uwe Alzen, Nicola Larini, Volker Stryzek, Klaus Ludwig and Hans-Joachim Stuck, but also Dario Franchitti, Juan Pablo Montoya, Christian Fittipaldi, Aguri Suzuki, Giancarlo Fisichella, Alexander Wurz, Tony Kanaan and JJ Lehto (and even more ex-F1 drivers). Incredible.
