Sounds like they've never got that kind of feedback from Yuki Tsunoda. Or from Pierre Gasly.More on the value of Dan's feedback with AT.
“Pretty much straight away you could feel the quality of the feedback, not only the feedback on the handling of the car,” explained Jonathan Eddolls, head of trackside engineering for Scuderia AlphaTauri, said of Ricciardo’s early contribution.
“Obviously, he’s got a wealth of experience and he’s driven many different cars and experienced many different ends of the performance spectrum.
“Having that feedback on our car was extremely valuable for us.”
"Having raced with HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing, Renault, and McLaren, the eight-time grand prix winner therefore boasts not only more than a decade of experience but almost half of that spent outside the auspices of the Red Bull programme.
“I think the other things that were impressive, and reminders of what experience can bring, were: how he could understand the race; the feedback that he could give live; how he thought the tyres were behaving – was it a one-stop or a two-stop; or if there was a Safety Car, could he reheat these tyres? Or would we need to fit a fresh set,” Eddolls said.
“A lot of the time, we’re making those decisions from the pit wall based on data.
“When it’s not clear cut, having someone with that experience can really, really make a difference.”

Suggests the need for the existence of a junior team is disappearing. Flog it to Michael Andretti.
They had offers around a billion $ and refused, seems like they think they can earn more long term by just "renting it out" aka selling the naming rights. At least until the bubble bursts...

Who knows but interesting to hear it so early in his time with them. A shame he broke his hand and hasn;t been able to help out further. Looking forward to him getting back in the car and seeing how AT or whatever they are going to be called can progress up the field.

This for me still remains more likely then an 11th team.

Pretty sure Lawson and Piastri have done a stack of laps here in testing. Tsunoda seems to have Lawsons measure here so far. He barely missed q3 and even beat Sainz and Perez. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the weekend pans out.18th for Lawson in qualifying.

It's 100% here to stay though.
I actually love the sprint format. Which is weird because I can't stand 20/20 cricket.

I don't mind it to watch, like today was fun with Piastri winning etc.
But I just find it doesn't resonate, and none of the storylines from a Grand Prix weekend come from the Sprints, it's all focused on the main event on Sunday.
I've found this year anything that's happened in the sprints is quickly forgotten by the news generated the next day.
Perhaps this one will be different given it had a new winner, quite a few passes and crashes. Especially if Verstappen drives into the distance tomorrow, which is likely.
Just my opinion though, perhaps it's just not for me.

Fair enough, but how it resonates with the media, casuals, or anyone besides me is not something I care about. I'm building another business at the moment working almost 7 days a week sometimes, and all I care about is does it entertain me. I don't have time to go out much, so F1 and motogp so easily fill that slot for now.
After watching F1 for over 20 years, I'm not interested in the slightest (anymore) about 3 practice sessions. Yawwwwnnnn.
I can understand though that some people, especially those watching since the 70's and 80's, that the old historic format means a lot to them. I just don't care personally.

Dan made a wise choice skipping Qatar! Would have been a dreadful race to try to return from injury.
Liam didn't get comfortable all weekend and it really began to just look like a battle to survive to the end after the first few laps in the GP. Unsatisfactory way for him to finish his stint but I doubt it changes any long-term plans.

So I guess its official then DR is returning at Austin?? Don't get why he would be in a Red Bull though given he is with AT unless arranged before he joined and that he would be in another car and not resting his hand as much as possible before FP1? Must be alright then.
Daniel had a whole calendar of showruns, events and appearances organised quite early in the year, of which Silverstone tyre test was the first outing. Except...we all know what happened there haha.
He had to miss the Nurburgring one because of his hand, very unfortunately, so I imagine he's excited to be doing the showrun. Liam took his place at the Nurburgring, so it's just a case of if you're affilated to RB you do the showruns.
If this IS it for Lawson I’d just like to say well done.
Respect and good fortune in the future.
Jp
I agree very much with this sentiment. And I'll be keeping an eye out for streams of the Superformula finale and hoping he wins that title. Good luck, Liam...and see you in the AT next year.

Not sure if true but I heard that during the Qatar GP Liam was the first driver to get a track limits warning - very early in the race - but he didn't get a penalty so managed to keep it within the lines for the rest of the race. Bit of a contrast to old Checo.
This is the impressive thing about the guy

Nice words from Yuki too.
"It’s good to have Daniel back. It’s not easy to have one Free Practice session and immediately go into qualifying, because there’s not a lot of time to get up to speed, but he did a good job and has already given good feedback, and that’s why we were able to finish in P11.”

Bad luck for Yuki again. His RE could see all the cars on a lap behind Yuki coming. Did the RE got the timing or available time wrong?
One wonders that again and again these things happen. To all teams.

I haven't seen Tsunoda's onboard or heard his radio, but looking at the driver tracker and Hamilton's onboard I can see that:
- Tsunoda left the pit lane with 2:19 left on the clock,
- Tsunoda stayed behind Pérez on the out lap but passed him before T12,
- Hamilton passed Pérez into T16,
- Hamilton had to back off in T17/18 because Tsunoda was going slowly despite having a big gap in front,
- Tsunoda exited T18 with 0:27 left on the clock,
- Leclerc was the only fast car behind,
- Leclerc passed Hamilton and Tsunoda between T18 and T19,
- Tsunoda pulled over to the left at the T19 exit, as if to let somebody by,
- Hamilton passed Tsunoda after T19,
- Pérez, too, passed Tsunoda after T19,
- Pérez crossed the control line with 0:02 left on the clock,
- Tsunoda had left a gap to Pérez at T20 and didn't make it.

The race Ricciardo and Tsunoda ran at a similar pace. Dan lost out a bit at the start, and Tsunoda had to spend half the race fighting his was passed both Haas. The pace however was similar to that of Albon in the Williams. If there are retirements they can potentially battle for lower end points tomorrow from the look of it.

So did Ric do a good race or Tsunoda a bad one?
I feel the Alpha Tauri lineup sooner than later is gonna be Ric-Lawson.
Tsunoda did well in F2, but now he has almost 3 full seasons in F1 and somehow is failing to impress over and over again.

His tyre management over the race remains one of his strong points, he seemed to gather momentum as the race went on. That was one of the key highlights of the peak Ricciardo era.
A very strong return race all things considered.
