F1 was a long and predictable season without a great deal of variety at the front with a couple of decent races. F3 and F2 were fun to watch, as was NASCAR. Indy Car was by far the series that entertained me the most this year, even with Palou dominant

That is where I got my idea. So kinda puzzling to see the differences. Well obviously there are differences.
Points for 33 cars, the smallest is 5 points, the first gets 50, then 40, 35, 32,…
1+DNF is 50, 3rd+4th is 67. Is this the key? If so why?
Then pole (2) points? And the mist who lead the racing laps gets 2 additional points. Indy doubles all. The constructors gets only the top three.

What will be the closest system for F1?

How about 1 point for the car that finishes last and one point more for every position above last. So there is only ever 1 point difference between two places and the amount the first place gets depends on how many finishers there are.

It's simple, it's easy to understand and will narrow the spread making for fights right up to the end, I feel.

Max Verstappen is 19 points behind Charles Leclerc in the championship. Early in the final race Leclerc retires.

This leaves 19 cars on track and Max is leading the race, on course for 19 points.

Ferrari retire Carlos Sainz with "technical problems". Max wins the race and gets 18 points. Leclerc is champion.

10 years later Max takes the FIA to court on the grounds that Ferrari admitted to to them there was no problem with Carlos' car and therefore the race should have been stopped at the end of the lap prior to Carlos' retirement and therefore Max is the rightful WDC...

Yep, my system works.

Yep, my system works.

Any game has a rule and with the rule participant play, I mean if he agrees to play. So, in this case, if Max agreed to play with the system of yours, the he loses, then he could not disagree to this result, obviously.

Like anyone’s guess we can replace Max with Lewis, or anybody.

It is therefore about the player’s self expectation on who the winner is and how he wins. All winner hate to lose so therefore no one agree to such rule where ‘a loser’ might be a winner, even if all viewers wants to see drama.

To me 2023 will always be a very bad year because we lost Craig Breen and Dilano van 't Hoff.

Not to be insensitive because those were some very bad tragedies, but unfortunately even in the modern era motorsport sees competitors suffering fatal accidents almost every year.
