I was looking at this ad for Lotus 70 formula 5000>

I noticed the exhausts seemed to be in unusual configuration, both exiting to the right on top of each other, see photo

I don't recall having seen this before.

What are the pros and cons of such an arrangement?

Variation on a 8 into 2 system for a crossplane V8, where some pipes from one side of the V are adjacent in the collector to some pipes from the other side of the V for better extraction. I've never seen the two end pipes stacked on one side like this on an open wheel car before, but the Ford GT40 had a similar setup with both exiting from the centerline. Some NASCAR stock cars in the 60s and maybe 70s had individual header pipes arranged like this, typically characterised by both end pipes exiting on the same side of the car instead of left bank to the left - right bank to the right.

I actually quite like that, makes it look like a long track dirt bike from the USA!!

Not a Lotus configuration, however...

I'd say it's purely Brack or his engine builders.

I saw this car once when Bill Brack was running it and I'm certain it did not have the exhaust as pictured. I would have remembered!

Edit - not to say Brack never ran it this way. Just that I don't know when it was installed.
