It's race day in Monza as the two Ferrari try to fend off a looming Verstappen. Can Max make it a perfect Ten, or will the Red cars work together for a famous home victory?

Russell is lurking in 4th, Perez a lowly 5th. Albon is flying high once again for Williams, with Hamilton in a McLaren sandwich. Alonso rounds out the top ten with the two Alpha Tauri set well to nick a point or two if the opportunity presents.

The race starts in 1 hour 10 minutes (1400 BST / 1500 CEST).

I hope one of the Ferraris win but it is hard to bet against Max.

I'm hoping to see history today! But it will be great to see Ferrari make a race of it if they can.

The track temp is going to be high. I will be surprised if Ferrari do not cook their tyres and fall back into perez's clutches

I think Ferrari did as good as they can for the weekend already, it's all going to be downhill from there and standard Max win. He might get ahead before DRS, but I'm sure once the DRS kicks in it's just a matter of laps. And you can never bet against Ferrari having a bad weekend so who knows what kind of strategy shenanigans might go on. I'm hoping for an exciting race nevertheless

Really excited for today. Either we have a beautiful Ferrari winning, or we see a record for the ages being broken. By any means it’s going to be memorable (I am aware I a purposely ignoring all scenario’s which could also happen ;-) )

If Leclerc can jump Verstappen at the start, then I think Ferrari have a small chance because Leclerc will be able to hold Verstappen and maybe hurt his tyres. Only a small chance, though.

Small chance is correct..if everything works on track the team has an uncanny way of undoing it in the pits, it will take a minor miracle to get past a win (behind) the Ferrari pitwall!

Some sort of antistall issue again for Zhou on the sighting laps.

The Brundle/McLaren thing is a nice idea but not executing as smoothly as they'd like.

Small eye on Russell today, race pace strong all weekend. Sneaky feeling he'll come through to 2nd.

I think he'll be lucky not to get shuffled back to 5th.  I think the Ferraris and Perez will have him covered today. Similar to Spa.  Ferrari is just too efficient and if Perez summons a modicum of decency he'll be ahead too.

Let's hope the driving standards in F1 are a bit higher than in feeder series, or we'll see drivers skipping corners all the time and plenty ending up stuck in gravel. With the trigger happy race director it would mean that Bernd has a busy afternoon!

Parabolica is a relatively fearsome corner again with the gravel.

The driving standards in F1 have generally been very high this year. I'd put money on no safety car today.

Hoping for an actual battle for the win but I know the inevitable Max crushing win is on its way.

Watch out for Albon in the early laps and when DRS kicks in, I don’t know if he’ll have the race pace to fight for P4 but he has a chance to finish in the top 6. Gonna be interesting to see how Lawson does against Tsunoda in his second F1 race and in dry conditions.

Prediction: VER-RUS-LEC. Not exactly what I would wish for (that would be far wilder), but I think most likely to happen given that Mercs often perform better in the races, while Ferrari do the opposite. LEC is often a bit faster in the race, and might undercut SAI, similar to how last race VER undercut PER.

All pure conjecture, of course :)

It is so interesting to be hearing about what kind of fuel all the motorvehicles in F1 are using, including the trucks to transport the team equipment....I never once thought of that

Verstappen’s starting to approach the level of dominance at which it’s probably better for the general public’s appreciation of his skills for him to not win a race or two.

So for his sake, I hope it’ll be a Ferrari win this afternoon.

Perez had an engine change yesterday, though. No idea how old this one is now, but it's probably not the preferred one, and may lack a bit of power.

I feel like Alpine should just say screw it and start on the soft tire.  Push flat out and get as high up as they can, then pit for hards until the end (pray for SC).

The Honda (or RBPT... ) generally doesn't have much degradation though.

The RB is bloody fast in the races and anything less than P2 for Perez is a disappointment.

Interesting Sam Collins analysis on Top speeds - looks like RB might be vulnerable to Ferrari at the end of the straights - although that doesn't take into account RBs DRS advantage. If they can hold Ver up maybe there's a small chance.

Sam is obsessed with top speed data. For overtaking the Parabolica exit is just as important, where Max has the highest minimum speed by some margin

Did Vasseur just say the Ferrari’s are not out there to help each other in the start?

The incident will be reviewed after the race as I understand it. A possible five place grid penalty for the next race is on the table

Ferrari gained 2km/h more with DRS enabled compared to Red Bull’s 19km/h, Alpine gained the most at 23km/h and Aston Martin were second with 22km/h. So that might not be the case in this race.

Either way the first corner and first lap will be crucial between the top 3 today.

I was thinking hards for Hamilton, but seeing as he’s got new mediums (like a few others), maybe he’ll start on those.
I just got this idea he’d do something opposite again, run a traditional one-stopper and start on the hards.

I think we’ll see all compounds in use from the start.
