I know John Cooper was the first with the eyes thing on his helmet

 

But I was not watching then sadly!

 

I remember guys like Yoshiaki Katoh, Yasutomo Nagai and several other with the eyes on their helmet and seem to recall it was something to do with a Japanese team or maybe where they started>?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

It was the signature of the Special Parts Tadao (SP Tadao) company/team who sponsored a lot of young Japanese riders.

That is it Chili I remember the name now. 

 

I have a huge affinity with that era of Japanese riders, and all the stuff linked ti it, their special single and twin bikes, teams, the 8H, it was a magical era for me.
