Race day in Singapore and Red Bull's win streak is under severe threat, if not as good as gone already!

The race starts in 1 hour 50 minutes (1300 BST/1400 CEST).

Will Sainz cap off his sudden burst of form with an impressive victory, or will opportunistic Russell once again find the top step with Red Bull out of the picture? Behind the top two, their respective teammates Leclerc and Hamilton will want to strategise their way to the front, but will have to contend with the lone McLaren of Norris, still searching for his first victory.

Look out for Haas and Lawson battling for points, and the struggling Red Bulls fighting through the midfield mire.

For the first time in 2023, it's anyone's race! (Apart from Stroll who has withdrawn) Perhaps a poll is in order   ;)

The key question: how will Ferrari mess this up?

Max P1 by lap 6.

8th after lap 1, 3rd by the time pitstops roll by in the DRS train, 1st after pitstops (Ferrari messes up the strategy)

I'm excited about this one. It has the vibes of one of those 'weird' weekends - the lizards on Friday, Red Bull's drop in pace, a big crash in quali, lots of teams on similar pace.

I still think George can get it if the race is 'normal', but everyone is so close that a poorly timed safety car will mix it up. The danger is that everyone trundles round waiting for that to happen, and thus nothing will happen as nobody is pushing...

A la 2019. Can really see that happening assuming a Ferrari leads after lap 1.

Surely if you're Hamilton you've got to start on the hards and hope for a late safety car?

Yep, Russell needs to get ahead at the start then he can scamper off on a two-stopper.

I predict Mercedes will make Hamilton go long on a one. They'd be fools not to split their strategy here.

Singapore is one of the few GP's of the season that i really look forward to!

The race is very long, the track is hard on the drivers and on the cars, making it almost like a race of Endurance.

The location is spectacular and it has carachter, unlike Jeddah.

Its a shame the Saturday threads are closed so quickly when more points are coming out on some of the penalty controversies.

https://www.motorspo...aring/10521513/

This looks like an close to admission we will get that redbull is formally a 4 car team and thus hold a strategic advantage.

The FIA directive that came out in 1997 which said there must be no inter-team collusion seemingly no longer applies.

I think it's legitimate to ask why Alpha Tauri did not make a complaint. Their driver was clearly impeded.

Brundle just came out with the good point that 25% of these safety cars were in the corners that are now gone.

The reason is to avoid parallel discussions with people either posting things twice or people not seeing relevant posts.

If you want to refer to a specific post in the build-up thread you can quote it and copy it and post in the new thread

The track is shorter now and so is the race, it's not much of endurance anymore. Other than the humidity.

It's better than these other new soulless venues, but should not be held in the dark ("dark") anymore.

Will be interesting to see how Max races today.
The last year he could just wait for the race to come to him, playing the long game, taking it careful and focus on staying out of trouble.

Let's see if he now goes back to how he raced sometimes when fighting (Hamilton) for the championship: in a hurry, reck-/careless, overly aggressive.

Should be a interesting start.   If the Mercs dont get tyre temp up quickly, we might see a little bit of the understeer we see from them on the first lap(s) going into the corner.   With cars alongside it might end nasty if that scenario plays out.

Going to be a interesting race to watch,  purely because the RB's are realistically out of contention for a podium - although I wouldnt rule them out getting a car well up there.

It might be even worth a risk starting on the softs and hoping for a early safety car.   Especially if you can gentle the softs up until the same window as the mediums, which might favour the cars who are more gentle on the tyres (IE RB as they have new softs spare)

they should be able to penalize also without a formal complaint.

I think Haas would also be a lot less likely to complain about Ferrari, or Williams about Mercedes. I don’t think alpha Taurus/red bull are so special in that regard.

This will still be a relatively long race, over 1h 40 if we get a SC at some point.

For what is worth, bookies have Verstappen as 3rd favourite...

C'mon ... you know why, they know why .... everyone knows why.

If you allow one person to own two teams this sort of thing is inevitable.

No one else was directly harmed by the collusion - or at any rate the decision by one team not to report .... so the sport has to lie in the bed it made.... or change the rules so that one person cannot own two teams.

I always think whenever we have one driver not starting it really highlights how 20 cars just isn't enough

Today we have just 18 on the grid and 1 pitlane

Put my vote on Alonso (someone else). All it would take is a bit of Lap 1 crazyness, a safety car, The Lizard of Chaos and some dumb luck.... 😁

Red bull are ahead of everything when it comes to operations and strategy.

I believe the ferraris will appear quick but in reality their tyre deg will back others at the end of the stint.

A well times SC and I see Max all of a sudden fighting at the front.

So previous races max qualifies on front row but has approx 1 sec on tap in the race if he really needs it.

Today he is 0.5sec off quali so I reckon he 'only' has 0.5sec advantage in race.

If they can overtake then he'll win the race comfortably.
