Time will tell if I am wrong or not and no, I don't really care. It makes little difference to me what he is.

Yet you care enough to randomly bring it up and perform mental gymnastics in order to attempt to link it to Alonso’s personality? Yeah right!

Honestly, this was a pretty boring race. Max dominating in front, no battles between 2-3-4 and not many fights in general. Russell spiced it up a bit trying a 1 stopper, but meh

Just removing personal attacks and replies to them. If you can't tolerate a difference of opinion, maybe you shouldn't be posting here. If you feel the need to point that out to people directly, you really shouldn't be posting here.

I honestly thought it was an OK race and I’ve been very quick to call races this season boring. Nothing massively exciting but I wouldn’t say it was boring. Everyone knew Max would win barring a miracle but seeing Oscar get his first podium, Merc battle and some other scraps made it OK in the end.

Maybe I’m overestimating how good it was because I chose to watch it in the afternoon and not wake up at 6am for it.

With that argument, you can kinda just punt of Sargeant every race, as aside from time, he doesn't really lose much, eh?

I struggle to see what was wrong here other than unfortunate coincidence. Last weekend Sargeant knocked the whole front off his car and was speeding back to the pits leaving debris everywhere.  It's not a requirement to park the car or drive on the grass if you are able to get back to the pits.

As I see it, Lando should have overtaken Perez. It was nothing more than an unfortunate misunderstanding and Mclaren should have been quicker to instruct Lando to pass.   Perez crashed in the hairpin. They should have known he was going slowly.

I agree with you & thought it was a very interesting race, esp in terms of strategy, etc.

I've been told if it's not linked here, it didn't happen, so I went looking for a link to this quote. No surprise, it's from GPFans which has a dubious reputation at best, and it's not anywhere else that I can find. Maybe he did say it, but if you had actually watched his race onboard, you would have seen him backing off the curbs somewhat. It wasn't a massive change in his lines, but they also didn't ask for a massive change, and the wing held up fine.

But anyway, he said a lot more positive things than negative ones, even if you count that one and the 'big moans' re: the strategy, only one of which you've come up with, which wasn't even a big deal. And he defended the team, which you completely ignore, of course. And re: the lack of straightlne speed he simply said, correctly, that despite being quicker over a whole lap than Ocon, he was never going to get past him because the straightline speed differential just wasn't there. He was saying they needed to try something different, which they ended up doing, and it worked. You're unwittingly telling me you only heard selected quotes from his race radio without actually saying it. LOL.

But hey, you're clearly on a mission to find something to complain about. Are you also going on about the other drivers who actually did have beefs with their teams, which we see pretty much every race, or do you save that all up just for Alonso?

I made a simple observation that Alonso seemed highly frustrated. That's it. I didn't even criticise him. LOL.

And 3, 2, 1 piastri and Lando niggles continues to fester as one will get the preferred first stop order. Gonna get ugly.

Was a good race. Sat in grandstand C where you can watch most of the overtakes down the mainstraight and watch the cars climb up the curves

Video-Capture-20230925-104814.jpg

Have been to 6 races now over the past year and Japan is by far the most organised GP with the best experience. Everyone should try it once because it's actually very affordable, probably the most affordable race I have been to. The seats are dirt cheap, the F&B or merchandises sells at market price with little markup. There are even vending machines everywhere for your drinks. That's how cheap it is. The best part is you are allowed to bring in your own food and drinks unlike all other GPs.

The entry itself is with a traditional ticket for 3 days so you can't lose it. No scanning or anything needed, they just use a pen to mark it, nobody barely checked it and you can actually go to any stands you want so I try many different vantage points. No security or bag checks at all too, you just stroll into the event itself. There are no entertainment acts at all like concerts, but there's a theme park within the circuit to keep you entertained and the go kart was pretty fun. As typical with Japan, everything is organised with neat queues and even drivers meet everyone was seated nicely, no shoving and pushing.

If it isn't obvious enough, Yuki is huge here. I have never seen a GP where the entire track only features one driver poster predominantly and so many AT and RB shops. Most of the time they are fairly even. Maybe Zandvoort is like this too I guess. They were giving out flags of RB and AT for free and even have Yuki own clothing lines and Honda shops.

The only annoying thing is getting to and fro the circuit. They don't add any extra trains and it comes every hour so it's a nightmare to get to and fro. I have to leave before the race end just for a chance to get on the train. I left after qualifying ended on Saturday and waited 5 hours to board one train back to Nagoya. And the price and ticketing system for transport is pretty confusing, most of us foreigners were lost.

I would start another thread for tips to the GP in detail if anyone is interested in going but this is a track I can see myself going back every now and then. Great experience overall.

Sounds fantastic. Sounds a lot like Montreal except for the train problems (btw they also allow food and drinks to be brought in).

Who knew that all you really need to draw big crowds is good racing at a well-run venue, reasonable pricing, and a staff that takes pride in what they do and cares about the racing and the fans? There are a few, like Suzuka, Melbourne, Montreal, Indy, Mexico City, Silverstone, off the top of my head. Not so sure about many of the rest though. Seems like fewer and fewer circuits really 'get it' these days imho.

I mean the experience at the track. IIRC you can also make that trip by car, but Clrnc would probably know better than I do.

He is showing his true colours, nothing new. As soon as things go south, he will slay Aston Martin in public, as he did with every other team he drove for. He will never miss a chance to show everyone how great he is, but what a #### car he drives! :D

At least he isn't moaning that hard that his team principal needs to drop in the radio to message for keep his head down nd apologies for driving this sh!tbox....

I really don't see the fuzz with Alonso, off course he is a bit annoyed with the current form, but I see him quite relax to be honest.

You just have to leave 10 to 20 mins before the session end and you will be fine.

Yeah you can but heard the jam to go out of Suzuka can take 2 hours too.

Saw Lewis leaving with a Heli and rightly so.

You mean you have to miss the actually exciting, fun parts of the weekend. 10-20 minutes before the end of qualifying would mean missing all of Q3. It would mean missing the final laps of the race, no celebrating under the podium...no, to me that is not fantastic at all.

Hmm ... just like COTA, if you're lucky. At COTA it's not uncommon for it to take 2+ hours just to get out of your parking lot and onto the road, due to traffic control understaffing and poor traffic flow design.

huh?

I don't think there was any controversy between the McLaren drivers yesterday. Only reason Piastri pitted first was because he was much slower than Norris and by luck (where are you southernstars with that observation?) with the VSC he gained a lot.

Perez has been having a lot of calls go against him, while other drivers (hint: Hamilton at Spa and Singapore just to name two) got away with things in duels with Perez. He certainly hasnt been the luckiest driver in that regard.

But isn't it thought provoking that before the GP even started multiple posters was wondering 'who will Perz pinball this time'?' And lo and behold he pinballed several drivers along the way. The reason Perez is in that seat is not to challenge Max, but to collect good points for the WCC. He is failing that and I would posit that FIA should look at ramping up the penalties to him soon as his transgesssion in Singapore of torpedoing Albon was almost directly repeated at Suzuka towards Magnussen. Apparently he is not taking the present penalties to heart so harsher may need to be applied.

Who did he pinball this season to justify these type of posts? I honestly dont remember.

Also whats up with the 'he pinballed several drivers a long the way'?

Which GP's stop you bringing food and drink in? I know some have banned alcohol being brought in. I've always taken my own food and beers into Silverstone, with no issues. Where there have been alcohol bans, such as Spa last year, you could still take food and soft drinks in.

Add COTA to that list. You're allowed to bring in one unopened bottle of water. That's all, even though it's often very hot and there's no shade, and getting water once inside is typically a challenge.

Contrast that with Montreal, where you can bring in coolers full of drinks, beer, food, etc, as long as they're small enough to fit under your seat. When I've been to Montreal they've even allowed larger coolers and let people store them under the stands or have them in GA. Funny thing ... it doesn't seem to hurt their food and drink sales in the least.

Think it's more of the norm that sporting events don't allow f&b so they can rake in more revenue. World cups never allowed it, PL matches that I attended don't allow it too. In fact haven't been to a football match that allows f&b as well.
