Poor poor unlucky David!! Whatever happened at the start he must have been cursing. I wonder which position he may have finished is he hadn't been stuck behind Bernoldi for such a long time.

And team orders at Arrows. what a shame ;)

we don't know why Dc stalled, and not being able to pass Bernoldi, while Jos overtakes several cars... 2 points are very lucky for DC.

HP - did you watch the race??? Verstappen = very light fuel load, two stop strategy. . . DUH!

DC must be mad, he was easily the fastest car on the track. I hereby second Ralf Schumachers call to get rid of Monaco from the F1 circus - the Bernoldi / Coulthard show proved how ridiculous the place is.

Well done MS / RB and especially Eddie. It'll be interesting to see the new Jag on a real circuit.

Michael Schumacher is to be applauded. Anyone who has such unbelievable luck is certainly to be admired. :)
Opponents falling off all over the place all season long...

McLaren and its drivers are damned. There simply aren't words enough to describe their unparralleled misfortunes!

Special mention goes to David Coulthard though for proving once again he is certainly the BEST driver of 2001. Anyone not seeing this is simply blind. :)

I LOVED Irvine's podium. It was a very refreshing predicament.

I liked Alesi's point. Although his team proved once more they are not to be taken seriously. I will take that last one back if there is an explanation for that pitstop though...

I laughed with Fisichella. Was he driving drunk or something?

Finally, a BIG congratulations to Bernoldi. His achievement was remarkable. But although I am sure he achieved something great, I simply can't remember what that was exactly.

*sigh*

Interesting to know what caused DC's stall. Ah well, 2 points are better than none.

Poor Mika.

Good on Eddie. Good to see some other faces on the podium lately.....JV, Ralf, JPM..... Now only if we can have a break from those Ferrari characters :p ;)

Nuts - another goose egg for Jordan.

Glad to see Alesi get a point. Seems like an ill timed moved for Pros to stop with a handful of laps left. Lost a point.

Rahal is now a very happy man.

Possibly because he's pulled another gap on DC in the WDC?

I pretend to be blind and have not seen how the best driver of the year 2001 wasn't able to pass a Bernoldi in an Arrows.

Why did Alesi come in for those tires at the end???? Couldn't he make it
just a few more laps!!

Nice work by Eddie.

Mika's bad luck this year is almost unbelievable.

Once again, DC shows that hanging in the race and staying agressive
will pay off.

MAX

so MS is lucky for leading start to finish

DC is driver of the day for getting 2 points - all due soley to others falling off the track.... he couldn't even pass a bloody Arrows

what a hypocritical post you made

Boring race, as soon as DC stalled the result was set barring any misfortunes from Ferrari, they stayed on track, were reliable and the drivers didn't make any mistakes as far as I know. I'm happy for Jaguar and Eddie, finally a podium after many miserable races.
Michael actually broke a sweat, was it extra work or bad venting from thye new fangled helmet.....?;)

 All the excitement was killed either before the actual race started or shortly after the start. Seems that MS is walking towards championship - no real threat for him after MH finished. What a disappointing season for him - he has all the bad luck now. As I don't know the reason for DC's problems, it's hard to say what to blame. If it's a car related problem, Mac is making life far too easy for Ferrari. Where is the quality control ?

Eddie on podium after a disastrous start of the season was one of the rare delighting things of the whole event

I wonder if JPM had a setup problem :p

DC shows more class in defeat than some of his fans.

Next they'll be saying the season is now over...that usually
comes right after they say MS's success is due to luck.

Max,

i agree that MS is the luckiest son of the bitch in F1,
which was once again proved today.
Talking about easy win !!!!
I can only imagine how his fans (the ones like Juan)
are turning this win from what it really was (lucky)
to a something that certainly was not (a win due to
skills of the driver).

I dont agree your statment about DC, he stalled (probably
his own mistake), and after that he was behind Bernoldi
all the way till he made a pit stop...
Even Verstappen was able to pass his team mate
within few laps wth the same car, so DCs pathetic
hanging behind much slower car was ridiculous.
Think if Verstappen had Mclaren what he could have
done with it !!
All in all, DCs perfomance was pathetic, he gained all
positions because drivers in front had problems, not
a single position he scored by his driving

Well done Eddie, for Jags first ever podium, and Alesi for Prost's first '01 point (reportably worth massive dollars (like 10 -12 million) in revenue sharing and travel reimbursement.

Well done Bernoldi for not taking the easy route and going out to RACE all afternoon.

Comments of one of the McLaren engineers on DC's stall on the grid (paraphrased)

Q. Do you know it was a technical problem or driver's error?

A. Yes, we know!

Q. Can you tell us?

A. No!!

that sounds to me the sort of answer you give when it was one of the 'human systems interface' problems.;)

I didn't find the race boring, i expect Monaco to be processional, its still pretty, and danger lurks in every corner.

HP, in case you didn't understand my reasoning, I'll explain myself a bit further.

Coulthard 2001 stats:
2 wins
2 poles
2 fastest laps
5 podiums
only times not to get podium starts 22nd/dead last to end up 5th, counting in both occasions a) change wing pit, b) going slow as a slug for half a race because of a possessed Bernoldi on a mission.

And about Bernoldi: Bernoldi was obviously on a mission to prove something, going maniacally off line to defend a position that he would CERTAINLY lose after his pit. Doing everything in his power to keep Coulthard behind, when there is clearly nothing to be won from that (except for sponsor exposure).
The result: Bernoldi was EXTREMELY slow because of his efforts, being slower than he would if he wasn't doing this. But regardless, he kept on. He managed to exhaust David in an effort to achieve absolutely nothing, if not worse results for himself. Oh, and an even further destroyed Coulthard race, like in Spain when in top of all he had to pit again to change wings.

But anyway, good for him. :)
I am sure he would do the EXACT same to Schumacher. For sure.

The Good:
Michael Schumacher: flawless race

Coulthard: tons of efford well payed; a glenteman being overtake

Bernoldi: Not easy to face the pression like he did; great, great race.

Irvine: From where did he come?

Alesi: eô, eô, Alesi é o Terror! Show that Monaco is really a track for real drivers! Congrats! Great show! Yeah! Made my week!

The Bad
McLaren: And to think Ferrari wanted to delay the traction control thing because was afraid of Mac's devices...

The "too catchy to make a judgement"
Arrows: granted, finished with both cars, what is great. But used team orders, what is always controversial. I'll wait Frans Opinion on the subject.

Juan Pablo: great start, amazing honesty on the interview recognizing he was out due only to his mistake. A show and an error... it's just me, or Montoya is learning Mansell style of driving?

Edited to make justice - tnx, Z-Man

David's car was loaded with fuel right up to the airbox. Bernoldi's car was lighter, and in addition to that the Arrows have proven countless times that they are INCREDIBLY hard to overtake because they are very fast on the straights (and slow where you cannot overtake anyway...).

and Chris G said:

Alesi hit the barrier with two wheels. He probably had some kind of tyre-related trouble (puncture or whatever), they only exchanged the wheels and did not refuel.

Ah, and btw in addition to what has already been said something most seem to have "missed" so far ...:

Congratulations to Michael. Flawless race, well done. Yes, he did have luck, but that's racing.

Norbert Haug just said that it was a "software problem". Hm, is David "software" or "hardware" ? :-) Anyway, I guess McLaren better have a good look at their LC again.
