We have a thread for future (/present) F1 venues, but I always feel like we should have separate thread for tracks that don't have F1 in mind. In other words, ignoring FIA Grade 1:

https://www.fia.com/...fia20230417.pdf

Let's start things off by saying that there will be new Grade 2 venue in Tennessee, with couple of different layouts, construction seemingly well underway and intended most likely for domestic US series

That’s a lot of racetrack at 9.5 km total. I wonder what kind of car they’ve estimated the average speed with.

Yeah 9,5km in total, but they probably won't use that layout as much it seems

Hopefully it'll have at least some use though, for example The Bend's 7,7km layout is more rarely utilized but not totally forgotten

Would be a great addition to the Indycar calendar;

As for my personal taste; I have always been a fan of the Potrero de los Funes circuit, in San Luis Argentina, since its 2008 reopening. And despite overtaking will be difficult, I'd love to see me some F1 action on that circuit.

I dont think it even has a current FIA Grade assigned to it as it seems that racing has vanished from the track post Pandemic. But its a great venue to behold with elevation changes, sweeping curves and a crater of an inactive vulcanoe to ride along.

Future venues, Beri, not past venues.

For Formula one this might be a future venue  :p  And that set aside, it has to be graded again. So in effect it is now a venue without a racing calendar stuck to it. Making it a possible future venue (again).

That being said, I am afraid that if we are only going to discuss future venues being built, this thread will be very short. There simply are not many circuit builds going on across the globe at this moment. Not ones who do not have Grade One certification in mind. Spending some tens of millions of Dollars on racing tracks without a possibility of a Grade One certification, is just pouring money down the drain. So either it are circuits that have a possible certification in mind, like the Kymiring. Or it are tracks, like the mentioned one in the OP, that have (a big) domestic racing (series) in mind to cater.

I can not imagine this circuit in Tennessee being built, certainly not when it is this massive, without having certain series in mind to cater. Regardless of what the article states that they are in negotiation. Such an investment of building this specific track is easily 100 million Dollars and no investor will commit to that without any (financial) security to protect said investment.

Hence why I think this will be a short or slow thread. That being said.. You are all very welcome to get me surprised otherwise. Because I am always in the mood for some discussions about new venues.

There’s nothing wrong with a short or slow thread. No reason to derail it and deprive the thread starter of their topic.

We have a thread for new or potential F1 venues, and I’m sure we could have a thread for old venues that could potentially be renovated or revived.

FIA has released new, very confusing and incomplete additions (and removals) to their Grade list, both in Grade 1 and Grade 2 and lower. Among other things, Kymi Ring apparently now has Grade 2 licence, even though in reality it hasn't

I can imagine something like Trans-Am having a blast there

I like the presence of purely notional tracks like "Hanoi" in that list.

I’m confused. Surely that list is the authority on what licences tracks have at any given time? What makes you say Kymi Ring hasn’t got a Grade 2 licence if the licensor says otherwise?

I think for circuits under construction there are grade which is from project documentation, but if circuit not have licence expires date i think this mean there are no licence for now.

I don't see WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on that doc - am I blind? All the other Indycar road courses are on the Grade 2 list.

Are there any international series racing at Laguna Seca? Just wondering if they need the FIA grading.

I like the fact the document says Hanoi is in Australia, too.
