The funny thing about this event is it isn't the best motorsport in Las Vegas this month. Anyone getting there early would be wise to head over to the Speedway and watch the SKUSA Supernats on Sunday. Best drivers in North America and Europe going at it. 500 entries across multiple classes. Can see the whole track instead of forking out thousand dollars for one corner and what amounts to roughly 700 seconds of actual eyes on racing.

All the action is live on Kartchaser - https://www.youtube....tChaser/streams (granted is still very 'steam' like as doesn't look great to watch with regard to cameras and placements)

Pro-Shifter is the headline class. Pound for pound probably more talent tense than F1. With FIA World Champs in action, multiple chassis manufacturers and engines it makes F1 look a bit silly.

If you want the smug feeling of knowing what true quality motorsport is make sure to tune in.  :p  :p

Vegas racing at night late November. f1 late to the party on that one

F1 different ballgame as kart tyres on car parks aren't as temp critical as F1. Still interesting though.

I’ve run and crewed at SNATs several times (as well as the Rotax Max Challenge when it was a thing) and cold tires are an issue compared to when it’s warmer.  Another difference is we don‘t have a choice of compounds and are more limited in allocation.

Pro Shifter is cool but I see the most competitive class as Masters Shifter.  Basically old pros and semi pros.  I may be biased though being an old shifter racer.

The Masters Super Cup class at the World Champs event this was one of the best races of the year in any category of motorsport

Yep. In terms of racing, this is the best motorsport event in Vegas in November. I think AJ Myers and Danny Formal are two of the best drivers in North America, full stop. Obviously don't get any recognition but they are phenomenal talents. All the Euro guys are brilliant too Pro-Shifter will be great. It's a funny old world. All the money being spent on F1, and it isn't the best racing in Vegas. No DRS, no gimmicks... just pure racing.

Karting here is a good example of how to run a proper heat race format.

Karting is great, and fantastically entertaining.

It's just a pity when rather than talking things up on their own merits people feel the need to go "F1 is awful, this is much better"

The problem is with karting is it's very hard to talk it up because the outside media will often ask drivers "why didn't you go to cars?" or "a driver F1 could have had" or the general comment of "this is where all the F1 drivers come from". There is immense outside pressure from the media to suppress karting. It's often not done consciously, so there will always be some push back. F1 always casts a dark shadow on the senior side of the sport and it's very very difficult for karting to break out it, especially the senior ranks. It's not helped by the fact governing bodies have abandoned the concept of it being a standalone motorsport and have gone full tilt on the F1 stuff.

I agree with your fundamental point, but to get there you need a large cultural shift. That cultural shift does entail some combative language that changes inherent perception initially.

Anyway, it was great to see Danny Formal. One of the best drivers in the world. Fore crying was also a good moment, karting means a lot to him. At 47 what he is doing is incredible.

Applause!

I love karting, Formula Ford, F4, F3, GB3, Ginetta Juniors, Mini Miglias, GT3, 750MC bikesports and hot hatches, F2, Formula E, Indycar, and F1. Plus lots more series. You could rubbish any of them by saying they're not the same as the others.

That's all good and well, but only F1 really dines off your interest.

Totally irrelevant to the fact that many of us enjoy the racing and are fascinated by the cars, drivers and (some of) the circuits.

My all means lose interest in a sport, but that's you, not everyone.

Perhaps overseas but in the US sprint track karting has lost what appeal it had as a development ladder long ago.  Things like Jr dragsters, quarter midgets and Bandoleros are what gets the kids to racing cars.  You can get into Legends at 12 and late model or hobby stock at 14.  The cost of karting at the top level has increased so much that in many cases those other forms are less expensive.  Even cars.  Karting has maintained to be a solid, grassroots motorsport in and of itself.  It’s bigger now than when it was more of a development ladder.
