That pit exit though...are we gonna see a castrated fudge attempt to fix it before an inevitable accident?
It's probably gonna be white lining to run wider and take the turn unnaturally.
Cold temps are gonna be very interesting.

The pic looks like the Windsor Park area. It’s predominantly Black, poor and has been sinking for the last few decades. The Gov signed a bill in the last session to buy them out and move them. The residents were ignored for years. It’s fault lines and empty aquifers so no chance of building anything there. Talk is a regional park.

What? The pit exit it fine. It's on the inside of T1 and well off the racing line. Where are you getting this stuff?

Sure, why not?

Any new circuit warrants some excitement and between the high speed street track nature and potentially low temperatures this one could be especially interesting. So pretty excited for the race itself, couldn't care less about the Vegas "glitz and glamour" but it doesn't bother me either.

I like to see a new circuit for the first time, so I'll hopefully be here for a practice session to get to grips with it, and will reserve judgement until we've actually seen a race!
I am moderately more excited than I have been for most Grands Prix this season, simply for the newness leading to a possibility of something unexpected happening!

pretty much sums up where I'm at with the LV GP

Should be fun.

I'm not much exited.
I love that we have reentered the 80's where we had 3 races in the US and one of them was in Vegas. - I missed the 1981 and 1982 seasons as I was not born, so glad to relive it, as I honestly thought always that it must have been strange to have so many races in the US back then. Of course it was 3 out of 16 back then. Its now 3 out of 22.
I also drove the track in F1 23 game and honestly, it was a total borefest for me - a total turn off. I drive a lot of tracks in a lot of simulators and its a big achievement to have me so bored driving a track.
I hope its one of those "boring to drive, but fun to watch" type of tracks - like Baku.

I don't like the balance of the car on the limit - putting the power down between T2 and T3 is super ugly, and braking for T7 is super hard not to lock up anything (either front or rear)
you need to run super low wings and it gets super tricky to drive it.
I don't enjoy it much, but it is way more difficult than Baku is for instance

I really don't see that being much of a problem. I'm thinking the racing line there will be an early apex and a wider exit. The natural, quickest line. But wewillsee.
It's not really gonna be that cold either. About 15C for both the start of Qualifying and the race start.

Yeah that approach/entry to 7 is a bear, right? It's been giving my kid fits. I'm guessing it'll be a talking point all weekend. He's having trouble getting out of the low mid1:30s.

Your son is in the low 1m30s? That’s esports level!
I am at 1m34.0 and probably if I get a clean lap I can get a low 1m33. But can’t get better than that.
My bad. He just told me 1:36.3. And yeah, his biggest problem right now is just putting together a whole semi-clean lap. I don't think he's reduced the wing yet.

Gonna be honest, my interest dwindled a few races ago and my excitement went months ago. Far too many races, and Max Verstappen wins them all anyway. Both championships decided about six months ago, looking towards 2024 now and barely registering that there are still races left this year, because they're all likely to be the same. That said, I'll follow this and watch the race, of course. I'll keep some optimism that this might turn out to be a really good one, because we're overdue. The glitz and show do nothing for me personally.
This is my main issue. That the season gets dominated is something I am used to. Ever since I have been watching Ive seen Williams, McLaren, Ferrari, Brawn, Red Bull, Mercedes and now Red Bull again dominate. So thats inherent to the sport in my opinion.
The show element of Las Vegas is also a bit too much to my liking. I am with Verstappen on that one.

Let's hope it'll not turn out to be yet ANOTHER borefest. I'll be running a half marathon that morning, so I might sleep right through it otherwise

I don't care much for the show, but it is always intesting to have a new track and new circumstances. It might give us some surprises.
If it will just be business as usual, against all odds, with hardly any overtaking, it will be very hard to sell this event in the next ten years... I expect a lot of celebrity shots and scenery during the race regardless.
Posted 16 November 2023 - 12:40
Suprisingly, looking forward to this a lot, even though I dislike all the showbiz activities. However, there is something "fresh" about this event. Also, interesing to see how the low temperatures pan out -- I think they are absurdly low and may lead to some very unpredictable situations (hopefully, no unsafe ones!).
Going to watch FP1 tomorrow to see the "first contact" with the track.

The only redeeming features of the weekend are that (a) its a new track and (b) that it will be cold. Hopefully these 2 items will conspire to make it difficult for the teams and drivers with lots of crying about not being able to find a window/balance/setup/understand the tyres and as a result the form book gets shaken up.
If not, oh dear.

The track looks a little uninteresting, and temps to be around 15C? Cool for F1, but not winter temps. A surprise frontrunner would be nice- perhaps Williams and Haas will make Q3. In general though, I think season fatigue is setting in. Too many races. And long past since they meant much too.
Aside from the F1 fans who are too cool for all this showbiz naffness (a pop concert, participants waving to the crowd...interrupting all the Thursday track action...never heard of in F1, or any other sporting events..) I think FOM have a few bigger problems here. Scheduling, ticket pricing, and poor communication with the locals through failing to recognise the inconvenience they had been put through. Obviously the strategy is event weekends, in major cities, but FOM need to do better in order that they aren't as welcome as **** on a shoe.
And why more ****ing night races? A true gimmick that wore thin a long time ago.

If we can have a genuine fight for the win, or at least some unexpectedness, then it could end up being a great race. But otherwise it does feel all pretty over the top for a race that fundamentally means very little as both championships are decided and we're kinda just chugging towards the end of the season now.

Kinda meh on this one. The more they hype a race, the less interested I become. I've got the feeling this race is going to be kind of a lottery, so hoping we'll get a new winner (even though I am a Max fan).
A new 1st time race winner would be awesome, maybe Norris will get his?
Max does not like street tracks and does not seem to like this event at all, so maybe he finally drops the ball this weekend for a change?
Also starting time are perfect for me, Mrs Beamer and Little Beamers still sleeping, so it will just be me and my morning coffee!

I skimmed the pre-race show: Las Vegas Grand Prix Opening Ceremony - YouTube
I skipped the concert and watched the part where the drivers were introduced. I'm not offended by it.

The track layout seems very bland from what I have seen so far plus we already have more than enough street tracks as is.
Temperatures could lead to some qualifying surprises I guess, but other than that: meh.
Posted 16 November 2023 - 16:22
Yeah, mainly interested in the event for the conditions really. Interest levels would be higher if we were in a 2021-style showdown, but this year has been the polar opposite.

Wasn’t that Paul Williams. ????

Yep. When Brendan was on Dave Moody’s Sirius show regularly they called him and his dad Big Enos and Little Enos. He was a good sport and went with it. Results or not he’s still popular in town. The Gaughans are good people. They’ve given back to the community. During the drags or Cup races their place on south Strip (waaay south) fills up with crews and drivers even though it’s almost the furthest from the track.

I haven't been able to watch a Grand Prix live for several months, and without a sense of guilt for over a year. This distorts my perspective. I'm looking forward to it. Also, if it's rubbish I shall revel in smugness so it's a bit of a win-win, unless Verstappen wins.

I'm more excited about the return of Formula 3 at Macau. But somebody has created a timetable clash between the Las Vegas Grand Prix and the Macau Grand Prix – and another one between F1 qualifying and the F3 qualifying race.
