The new Stellantis 6 to replace the hemi from Enginelabs.

https://www.enginela...to-hemi-legacy/

What is interesting is that it has only four main bearings - presumably to save drag therefore fuel.

It lwil be interesting so see what happens when it is pushed to very hight outputs. I appreciate a V 8 only has five  bearings but it also has only one throw between bearing not two as here.

What does the bolded part mean if it's an inline 6?:

  • A dual-scroll turbocharger for each cylinder bank, with electronically controlled wastegates and variable geometry turbines. The turbos are integrated into the exhaust manifold and feature water-cooled bearings for durability.

And it's 'old news' (don't worry, I hadn't noticed either). It's already being flogged in various Jeep's.

It's an awkward way of saying each turbo is fed by 3-cylinders

I imagine the structural oil pan helps out on the bottom end?

Structural oil pans, and ladder frame mains, are game changers.

The beauty of the inline six is that it can share tools with an inline four. Everyone has one of those.

Add a turbo or two and you have a performance engine of most any reasonable output with a minimum investment

The Hurricane 6 appears to be based on the architecture of the FCA Global Medium Engine.

They certainly make intuitive sense. Is the primary benefit for road engines NVH or are there other practical benefits?

NVH was the main driver but  ladder frame mains make for a very strong bottom end. You have to be a bit careful with the sump, a conventional oil pan can be quieter. The big advantage of the structural sump is when you tie it back to the bell housing, this shifts the first bending mode up, which is usually beneficial.
