We haven't done one of these in a while. Since I'm American and we obviously do everything better you're getting TWO, count 'em, TWO polls, for the price of one thread. God bless America and capitalism.
Best Driver: Lewis Hamilton
Best Team: Red Bull
Best Overtake: Hamilton on Gasly at T17 to begin Lap 45
Best Moment: Norris was OK
The race in a sentence: Lack of field spread makes for solid entertainment.

I gave it 3 and 8. I don't watch stuff before or after the race and haven't for years, so most of the event stuff passed me by. I did watch FP2 though and all the shambles around it made me give it a 3.
The race itself was entertaining and deserves a solid 8. It's probably the best race that I watched this season but with circuits like this and Saudi, it feels a bit forced and artificial. Designing circuits for maximum chaos rather than as a good race circuit. The chaos did make for some good fun though, with a mixed up grid providing some good drives through the field, some safety cars to bring people back together and tyres being weird too. It was entertaining but I don't want every race to be like it.

Best Driver: Stroll, Piastri or Ocon I think
Best Team: Red Bull
Best Overtake: Agree with AB: Hamilton on Gasly at T17 to begin Lap 45
Best Moment: Someone screaming "Perez" directly into Perez's face, then utterly blanking him as soon as he stopped (h/t to SophieB)
The race in a sentence: Plenty of action and close fights up and down the grid, including 2 on track passes for first, make for a very entertaining debut

I gave it a 6 and a 7. I loved the event but day 1 left a very sour taste in my mouth.
Might have rated the race higher if the battle for 1st lasted longer on more equal tyres.
Best driver: Charles Leclerc
Best team: Red Bull
Best overtake: Leclerc on Perez on the final lap
Best moment: Like above, Buffer shouting into Checo's face. The most awkward thing I ever watched in F1
The race in a sentence: Long straights, the little tyre management on the hards and close field meant an entertaining race.

Best Driver: Many drivers drove well
Best Team: Red Bull
Best Overtake: Almost all DRS, but whatever, drivers still had to fight to escape DRS on the next lap.
Best Moment: Ver/Perez/Leclerc battle.
The race in a sentence: Viva Las Vegas
It was one of the better races of the year. I'd prefer if it was held at an earlier time next year and without oil spills.

Definitely a terrific race; I gave it 9, with the top point lost only because there was a safety car. I usually ignore all the fluff and bull, so tried not to rate the "event", but got an automated warning. So I awarded it a 3, on the basis I'd heard about the build up and didn't want to.

Best team: Alpine (punching above their weight)
Worst moment: After race the Max-rabies online.
Best commentator: Max also.
Whole weekend: 9. I had no trouble with the hooha Verstappen criticized because I watched delayed and fast forwarded whenever I wanted. F1 TV is your friend.

Surely a nomination for opening post of the year.

If the start was indeed an error, I count that against him. I also think his pass on Russell should’ve earned him a penalty as an almost carbon copy of Pato O’Ward bulldozing Dixon into the wall at Long Beach this year. There is such a thing as making a move too late even if it might work.Best driver: Max. Weird not name him the best. What more should he do; drive totally without a front wing?

He caught Russel sleeping, as Charles caught Checo twice.
Perfectly valid moves. The sleeping driver cannot just turn on a car fully alongside

I agree in part, both moves were opportunistic to say the least and I have a sneaky suspicion that the start was half deliberate. But I, for me, don’t subtract things like that. I think Max put an enormous pressure on himself by his honest comments about Vegas and still he dominated his teammate, drove with a damaged front wring, got a deserved penalty and still won. I would have given the win to Leclerc both literally and figuratively but like I said…

I’d have to watch the move with Russell again (it was 2 AM), but if Russell had already committed to the line he had then Verstappen was simply putting himself in harm’s way.Sorry, but the take on the move with Russel is wrong.

Best Overtake: Hamilton on Gasly at T17 and Sargeant at the same place earlier in the race
Best Moment: Leclerc getting past Perez on last lap
The race in a sentence. Great race, voted a 7 and 8, better than anticipated.

It's clear that your American optimism is the reason why you're only listing the best moments of the weekend, skipping over the worst ones. Reminds me of that meme that for Brits everything is "not too bad", while across the pond everything is always "awesome!"

I am perplexed as to why some celebs are even relevant anylonger...
Bieber waving the checkered flag, nearly all of the opening acts??? I know new music but some of these concerts on a box were hotel show room entertainment...
Why not ACDC or Foo Fighters?
Regardless - it was a worthy effort and us Americans are used to shitty half time acts at the Superbowl for par for the course.
The race itself was one of the best all season IMO. I felt sorry for Logan and Albon as I was expecting better results but there were many other drivers who shined - Stroll, Charles, Perez and more.
One thing that sort of screwed it all however was the penalty against Sainz. That was complete BS and eliminated what could have been some even better racing at the front of the grid.

Bieber looked like his mom had just died while waiting to wave the checkered flag. All I could think was that there are starving children in Africa who'd kill to be in his position.Bieber waving the checkered flag, nearly all of the opening acts??? Haha sorry I dunno why I found that funny, I agree with the sentiment but I mean they would probably prefer a bowl of cheerios…

My acquaintance was at a watch party in the city though, and told me she had a lot of fun. Even got a picture with Paul Tracy.

Also, look at Norris on Hamilton on lap 1 in the same corner.

I can rate the race but that’s about all I actually got a chance to watch, so can’t really answer both poll questions.

Paul Tracy was there? That alone is reason to cancel the permit…

Thank you Nathan and thank you 1Player.
Without loki and paulb and prommer it would have been inert.
But thanks to them....It's a thread that will live in Auto-Atlas infamy.
I'll just leave you with a glorious victory speech from some other thread.
