I miss GPL and would love to spend some time simracing again. There are 1967 mods for RF2 and Assetto Corsa, as I found out. Whhich one would you recommend in regards to physics, tracks and online racing?

GPLaps is probably the Youtube expert on the subject, and he's produced the perfect video for what you're after.

There is a website with software that enables you to run GPL on new pc’s. Other than that: I I recommend Automobilista above AC for vintage racing. Except AC is software wise easy to use. AM has bugs, in my experience.

I did quite competetive league racing in GPL so I still know the physics and their shortcomings mostly in regards to tyres. As much as I adore GPL I actually do not want to go back but would love to try a more up to date rendition of the cars.

I massively sucked at GPL... so if I race the Lotus 49 in AC now I am thinking: 'This can't be realistic enough, because I am not spinning all the time!' rFactor and Automobilista have more realistic car-handling (I think!) but with Assetto Corsa you can use the program Assetto Corsa Content Manager (to be called ACM further), which gives you fantastic possibilities to create your own conditions for races. For example: many mods or games for copyright reasons don't use the real names for teams and drivers. In ACM you can change the names to your own liking... and, something I found most satisfying, you can handicap the AI (or yourself, if you are really good!) with added weight, less speed in general etcetera... or set up the grid for a race in exactly the order you want.
It is also very handy for installing new tracks or mods, or setting up weather, light or track-condition settings...
